Wow!! That pic of the clear stook looks radical. Wish I could have been at that auto show.

Josh3io, I know that car!

That is the BD4's turbo S2000 from Australia.

I saw it at an autosalon early 2000 and spoke in length with the mechanic who did the work (Paul). It is a JDM (11.7:1 compression) S with a HKS turbo and Motec engine management. At the time I saw it they had done no work on the engine internals but planned to.

Dyno results were showing 350hp at the wheels.

If you want to speak with the guys that did it check out their website : http://bd4s.com.au

The car has an intercooler...and they removed that black plastic aero screen in front of the radiator.
I assume we're looking at the second, closer up picture of the second car. The T sticking out of the pipe up to the intake manifold is a bypass valve. In turbo setups with long pipes (and even without, but to a lesser degree), this is used to vent pressure on throttle lift. You don't want the air in the intake to press back against the turbo compressor, which will slow it down and make it spool back up again. Many turbo installations in front-engine cars with front mounted i/c's will have a bypass. I didn't see one obviously in the first picture, but I could hardly see that one anyway.

You know, a turbo on the s2000 could be used to boost torque in the 3000-6000 range; you'd just give up improvement in the high end to get it. Undersize the capacity so it spools up very quickly and you get boost faster. Undersizing it that way means you don't get the airflow at higher revs, which is why "twin turbos" are useful, but way too complicated for this application. In one variant of twin turbo, the second one is bigger and spools up more slowly, but is on line for higher rpm operation when the first poops out.
