Default Two S2000s on Craigslist...need advice?

Hey all,

After 10 years of pining for an S2000 I am finally able to seriously consider purchasing one. I know that I definitely want an 02 or 03 because these were the only two years that full red interior was offered, and I just think it's absolutely spectacular. With that said, my exterior choices that I prefer are either Silverstone, Sebring, or GPW. I love the GPW but realize that it's hard to find a relatively low mileage 02 GPW with red interior. I recently came across the two cars listed below in my local craigslist and wanted to get your opinions. They both seem high (KBB lists the car with that type of mileage around $13,000), and the first guy has come down from $19,500 to $14,500 since he originally posted it.

Therefore, If you guys could give me some clue of what I should be asking for ($$) and what questions I should have about the cars, that would be very much appreciated. Thank you and I look forward to becoming a true member of the s2ki community in the not-too-distant future.

-Jeremy

It looks like the second car has had the black tape removed from the windshield. Not sure how important that is to you, but thought I would point it out in case you wanted it to looks 100% as stock. The $14.5 car seems close to reasonable to me given the mileage, but I am sure there are people on here that watch prices more closely than I do. Good luck!

I went thru the same thing, looked for over a year for a 2002 GPW but couldn't find a good one, finally gave up when I found a really well-kept NFR (my second choice). That was 2 1/2 years ago and good 2002/2003 were going for around $17. So both seem a bit high but it is going to get harder and harder to find older cars with lower miles in good condition in the smalller-run colors like GPW. Try asking around in the local forums (maybe New England forum) to see if they have any specific knowledge of either car. Also, here is a link to a great resourse for new buyers.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I noticed that too, and as long as that is the only mod then I'm fine with it.

17,000 miles on an 02 in the color you want for 14.5k seems good to me.

To be honest, I'd wait to find exactly what you are looking for. It took me almost a year to find a Mint 04/05 GPW w/ 3K miles in 2007/2008, but it was well worth the wait. Anything less was a compromise, and on a purchase like this, it isn't worth it.

Unless those are Zimbabwe dollars, $19k for a 2002 is a joke.

Since Wiggum seems to think I should try to hold out for a GPW with low miles, does anyone else think that that's a pipe dream based on my specific criteria? I know I could probably come across one in the future, but I'm not so sure that I would be able to find a pristine one with low miles.
