Default Ugly center console

Over the years, my s2000 has grown a slightly unpleasant area. The area I am referring to is around the stick shifter area. The chrome ring has gotten strachted up and looks nasty. This recent development really has me looking to upgrade the whole area.
I have come here to solicit some of your ideas.

My thoughts so far:

(1) Som ekind of agent that cleans the whole area (including the stratched up chrome trim

(2) Replace the whole center stack with a new OEM one (cost=$212 from Honda)

(3) Purchase and install some kind of aftermarket center stack (possibly with leather instead of the rung I have as I have a 2000 model year.

just take some rubbing alcohol (sp) and scrub wipe it over the trim ring - you'll remove the crappy coating & scratchs and it will leave a nice dark chome looking ring

that doesn't resolve the appearance of the chrome-type trim around the boot and hazard buttons

take a SOS pad, some rubbing alcohol and get to work. It comes out really shining and 10 times better than before I did it.

I wet-sanded mine in the kitchen sink. Instead of chrome it looks like brushed metal.
