Default Uh, oh, #4 failed on me at 59,500

My 2000 is now sitting in the shop diagnosed with #4 cylinder,
at 59,500 miles, happened suddenly just going into VTEC on
an on ramp. Estimate: $6738. I have asked the dealer
to contact DSM in search of some accomodation, pointing out
there are a number of cases of #4 problems in they MY2000s
known and reported. I don't expect to hear back until Thursday,
or maybe later, but it looks like I will need to rent a car to get to work
while this sorts itself out, and I'll probably be inquiring about a likely
attorney as back up in case there is a denial. Conveniently, my wife
is an Esq.

Any other advice?

thanks,
-dB

Did you have the ticking sound initially?

Not that I noticed. Afterwards, checking showed some
unusual oil consumption - it was down 2 qts!

Hi, sorry to hear your story.
Did you have the updated oil jet bolts?
When is the last time you checked the oil?
Does the dealer know about being 2 qts down?
I hope you are not accused of causing oil starvation.
What was your normal oil consumption rate?
Good luck on a warranty fix.

with 60k miles, why would honda fix it.? I know it would be nice of them to, but why would they? Your car has 24k more miles than the warranty covers... I could see if it had 38k or something, but not 60k.

You can probably get a used engine and tranny for $3-4k then sell of the parts you don't need to save some $.?

everyone is so damned Lawyer happy these days....... you are clearly way over the limit of miles. There have probably been 60 out of 20,000 S2000's built for the USA that have had a cylinder problem..so it is not like it is a high %.??

Guess you didn't have an extended warranty? My insurance (Geico) has an extended warranty to cover items that isn't covered. I asked them about the engine failure if it happened on my car, and they said they would cover it. Its only $2.99 more a month on my premium, but you have to keep it on there for the length of the car since you added it as new.
