I don't mean to be critical, but I am always surprised when people who have been considering Corvettes or like them, then buy an S2000 and are disappointed. It suggests to me they don't know cars very well or didn't do their homework. The two cars could not be more different, and they were designed with very different engineering priorties in mind.

The Honda S2000 suits my priorities in driving and performance perfectly. I'm sure the Corvette would be a huge disappointment to me. That doesn't mean its better or worse -- just a different car -- one built with different advantages and disadvantages, plusses and minuses.

I didn't use much of my SS' 385hp and gobs of torque rolling up into Wendy's drive-thru at 10 pm...
I hardly required such breathtaking ability to light the tires when trying to find a parking spot downtown...
While stuck in traffic one day, I can fondly recall being up one gear too high when an opening appeared in the lane next to me. Thank God I didn't have to downshift in order to make the move which found me 6-inches closer to my destination than the previous lane provided me...
NOTE TO PROSPECTIVE BUYERS OF S2000 WHO CURRENTLY ARE WEIGHING THIS HONDA TO EVERYTHING ELSE
Honda's have no torque. I mean, they couldn't pull a dead whore out of bed. Trailored only by a Modena can they reach safe highway speeds.

Now, It would please me to no end to discover Honda has decided to stop selling the car and recall all those yet unsold because they finally admit the car has no balls. That way, I wouldn't have to read more posts from disgruntled owners who couldn't read past the sticker to discover it's a four cylinder. How in heaven's name did it's low torque escape you during the test drive? This is when the car is at it's most civil (pre-break in VTEC) . To close, my '99 Z3 2.5-liter convertible could cruise around the city in 3rd gear all day but short of throwing Jessica Alba in with the deal, you couldn't get me to even THINK of a switch. I had my eyes on a '99 C-5 in pewter until I drove a well broken in '01 S2000. I left the dealership with a smile you could of poured on a waffle.
You're angry that your new car has no torque and you're not gonna TAKE IT ANYMORE!! #$*@# so you post your frustrations here. I now understand why.
At 9,000 rpm's, nobody heard you SCREAMING baby!
BWAHAHAHAHA
I'm outta here. Got to polish my no- torque turd this morning en route to flushing the birds out of the trees with some VTEC action...all 21-lbs/ft of it.

I've no wish to insult anyone here, but it's been said time and time again on this forum that the S2000 is an uncompromising roadster aimed at at what is really a very small niche sector of the market. It was never designed to compete in drag racing with bigger engined cars having loads more torque. It's far from being everyone's cup of tea, you've got to work to extract it's performance capability.

One of our early UK owners has just had to submit his car to the compulsory Ministry Of Transport Test which all cars are required to undergo here annually after 3 years. Not only has it passed with flying colours, it's also passed the very stringent emissions tests with unbelievably low figures. The engine is an engineering marvel with this sort of power being produced from such a clean engine. If you can't appreciate what you have, just move on and chalk it up to experience. The car fulfills the expectations of the vast majority of members here I suspect, so you can expect scant sympathy with what is purely a bad personal decision on your part.

As usual, your whole post was spot on. No one could have said it better.

Thanks Barry. I'm not sure that's true though. I sincerely hope THRILLR has a happy outcome to this and gets the car that will make him happy, whatever it may be. Some of the car comparisons we keep reading are just totally ludicrous. I'm sure some members would be better served by just lining up and comparing peckers. I understand mods are available now in the form of surgery if you're found wanting!

I can picture him now 3500 miles later hitting himself in the forehead and saying

"DOH I could've had a V8"

You're all of 19 years old and you are unhappy with your buying decision. WHAT? This didn't turn out to be the "end all, be all" of all automobiles? You shoulda bought this, you shoulda bought that! And to add to the fire, others tell you why you shoulda or shouldn'ta done this or that.
All totalled, the S2000 is my 33rd vehicle of my life and I ain't finished yet. Is it the "end all, be all" for me? HELL, NO! Am I unhappy with it? HELL, NO!
So some tell you to get a Z06. Well, that's up to you and your pocketbook. Is it better? Not really. It's just different. As are ALL the cars I've owned. I like some better for different reasons than others. But was I "unhappy" with any of them? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. When they served the purpose at the time, yes. When I "perceived" something better that someone else had, yes (and I'm talking about each individual car here). The biggest difference between you and me is that you haven't learned to be happy with what you've got and you don't know how to appreciate what you've got. You will always see the "greener" grass on the other side of the fence. Sure, go ahead and get a Z06 or a Viper. Maybe you'll be happy with it till 10,000 miles before your mind begins to wander and long for something else that will make you "happy".
As has been said throughout the ages, "You will find 'having' not nearly as satisfying as 'wanting'!"
