THRILLR,

I get the feeling that you have developed a bi-polar perception of your S. First you were totally ecstatic over it. But now that you have perceived a few warts, you are totally down on the car, even though you knew or should have known all of these things from the start.

You need stability. Right now, you are totally way out there -- metastable is a good term for you.

You're negative attitude on the car is worthless to other people. Everyone has to reach a point of understanding (for them) by accumulating experience. There is no understanding without personal experience. You have arrived at a really negative result over certain issues while others have reached a completely different result over the same issues. If someone had posted these same sentiments of yours on this board right before you bought the car, would you have heeded them and not bought the car? Of course not.

You have trouble with the synchro grinding? Get it fixed. You don't like the lack of torque? You knew about the torque before you bought it. duh! You don't like service bulletins?? Get a life! All cars get them.

you know, i think itz my hatch thats driving me down, i compare it to the S and it basically spanks it in every catagory, save looks and price. As for the guy who said it was foolish to compare a 8 cyl to a 4, guess what ill compare my hatch to most 8cyl's and ya know what, it will beat them in a race, in the twisties, and so forth, so i guess that comparison is not so outragoues after all. Like i said i was blinded by the few attributes the S shines in, and wasn;t looking at the big picture. I have drivin faster cars, and knew it was not a torque monster, like my boys 502 chevelle, but the reason i sacrificed the straight line perforamance was for 2 things: rarity and the honda reputation. ANd now, S's are not rare and i am expierecing the bullshit problems honda was supposed to work out in the first/second model year. So what am i left with, a not so rare problematic roadster that no doubt handles great in the twisties, but is not the car i thought it would be.

Everyone is so quick to play my story off as "but you knew it wasn't a dragster", problem with that is that i knew what this car was/is before i bought it. I am not saying, oh i thought it could take a vette, i am saying the reasons i bought it are no longer applicable (above paragraph) and i am very upset with my purchase. But what really gets me is the "it fills a small niche" For what i may ask?
Is it fast in the striaght line....not really.
Does it have way to many problems in its 3rd model year for a honda.....yes.
Does it handle and look good.....yes
Is it rare anymore....no
For the $ can u get a car that outshines it in most catagories...most certienly.
Mike

Chrysler said they'd make 5,000 Prowler's a year and that's what they did. Honda said they'd make 15,000 S2000's a year and that's what they did. The U.S. is their biggest market for all their high priced cars so about half of the annual production ends up here. You do the math.

Oh, did your dealer say it would be rare? Who ever met a dealer who could do math?

Nah man, alot of S owners will tell you the same thing, the car used to be much more rare, and now, youll see quite a few each day, they may not be a dime a dozen like mustangs, but recently there has an explosion in the # rolling around. Mike

LOL Cedric is the Ministry of Transport next door to the Ministry of Silly Walks? Sorry, I couldn't resist the Monty Python reference...

And now for something completely different: It sounds like Mike really did get one of the S2K's that had more than the normal share of mechanical problems, and possibly if I were in his shoes, I'd consider off-loading it as well. But not because I'd buy a 'Vette- Big engine, big wheels, big deal. It's still a GM product and you couldn't pay me to drive one. All the mechanical issues we've had with the S2000 won't hold a candle to the number of problems a Corvette owner will face, you'd think they'd start to build some longevity into them after 50 years.

like i said, i know about the perils of buying a GM product, so the vette might not be for me either. And once again, i am not looking at staightline performance only, although it plays a facter in that the S has nothng off the line with a clutch dump. But also, the z06 and a bunch others out handle it, and at 2800lbs its not exactly lightweight, had they kept it at say 2500lbs max, maybe it would be different. For now, ill just drive my hatchback around to keep the millaghe down on the S and sell it when something good arises. RIght now, i think my only semi-relistic aveuene is the M3, but its pricey as hell, could have a z06 for that much $. Mike
