Update on custom badge design to replace stock Honda badges
The designer has been following this thread and paying attention to your ideas and opinions. I'm hoping to have some preliminary designs to show by the end of the week. I can promise that none will be "ricey".
I agree w/ Andre and Schatten, I'm leaving mine as is. IMO, Honda did a very tasteful job w/ the emblems, and another design would likely be different, but no better if not worse. Just my $.02...
I met with the designer today to review some preliminary ideas. She's been following this thread, doing some research, and was very well prepared.
She and I both have concluded that we need to emphasize a design that is simple, contemporary, and sleek -- consistent with the whole design of the car itself. So complex dragons and any other animals are out -- we're not going to do them. We also want something that is mysterious in feel, so people look at it and say, "What kind of special car is that?"
All of the treatments will revolve around the S, and she already has some very good ideas. They go in several different directions One uses the S in a typeface similar to that in the logo. Another uses a very flowing, more absract S that becomes a new logo all by itself. Another puts a dragon head on an contemporary S - it's very subtle and effective. These ideas are going to take some time to develop to the point where we're ready to show them. There are many issues to work out -- colors, textures, materials, etc. She's also developing some options that will make very sophisticated graphic allusions to Honda, but ones that are not obvious.
Our goal now is to have designs ready to show in a few weeks and prototypes ready for Asheville (I hope to come with one on my own car).

Rick,
Sounds like you're taking exactly the right approach! An idea that came to me while winding up a mountain road yesterday is to have the S look like a stylized s-curve in a road; black with a dotted line. It might look cool, or it might look stupid. Just thought I'd throw in the idea.
