When I bought my03 I was offered an 04 for the same price, but I wanted the 9k redline, b/c I figured that's what this car is going to be known for. I recently bought 04 bumper and lip, so now I have the best of both worlds. BTW if you on;y want to rev to 8k buy an rsx-s or 00 civic si...HAHAHA
j/k

I had an 03 and now have a 04. I personally prefer the 04. I like the new power/torque curve. You only loose 700 RPM on the redline (I believe) but you get more torque in return. It "feels" like a better all around car, more refined... I also think it's better looking, the new wheels make all the difference. This is strictly my opinion!

This post is, to me, the most qualified post on this thread. This individual had the luxury of owning/driving both engines, and he stated his preference.

One more vote for the "depends on what you are looking for in a car."

If it was my only car: I'd probably want an 04+
If had to drive in stop and go traffic... or suburban one-lane streets: MY04+

But with a luxury coupe in the garage as well:
MY 02-03 all the way. It really shines on the warm sunny highway drives!

is a my04 a better daily driver, this car is going to be my dd, opposed to a my03 due to the lack of torque?

I own an '04. My only experience with a pre-04 is a short test drive of an '02 model about 1.5 years before I bought my car.

At that time, I had read tons of posts on this forum that complained about or refereed to this "no torque" issue with the 2.0 engine. All I can tell you is that I didn't see it. I thought that '02 model, which had close to 30k miles on it at the time, ran very well and pulled as good or better than I would have expected a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine to pull.

You have to remember that this is a small displacement engine that tuned to make power in the upper rpm band. If you shower down on it below 4 to 5k, you'll probably be disappointed if you're used to a V8. The '04 models will do marginally better than the older cars because of the longer stroke and slightly shorter gearing but as a general rule, all of them need to be spun up over 6k rpm before they'll start to pull hard.

My point in all this long winded reply is that I wouldn't be afraid of either the 2.0 or the 2.2 engine as a daily driver. The lack of torque issue is largely exagerated in my opinion. I have no doubt you'll enjoy the car ragardless of which one you buy!

Drive Safe,
Steve R.
