Default UR turbo purchase question

I just won a bid on Ebay for the Ultimate Racing Turbo Kit for $3800. The kit is perfect and has only been used for about 5 months. My question is this................Why were there only 2 people bidding on this item? Is this kit not very good or did I just get screwed? Did I make a wise decision on purchasing this? Any comments are welcome. Thanks

The reason why not many people bid on that turbo kit is that the average s2k owner tends to do extensive research on their parts before purchasing. Many people on this forum have now learned (the hard way) that no turbo kit is truly plug and play. The cost of a turbo kit is already quite large. Now add in the cost of tuning, questionable reliability, and the possibility of broken rearends and axles. Anyway, in my opinion the Ultimate racing kit looks very good asthetically. The problems that I've read about owners experiencing is that they have problems not with the kit as a whole but rather in it's utilization of the piggy back (emanage). Some are running too rich. Others too lean and experience detotnation and the loss of their engine. The only thing I can tell you is to get your car emanage tuned after you install. Do not drive it!

sorry for the typos... the spell checker is down

The seller is on this site, the kit is fine and I was thinking about bidding on it myself but my pockets aren't that deep for a turbo kit with the tunning and all... Beside I want to do some appearance mods first I.E. skirts, rims, maybe a hardtop

3800 is not a bad price eventhough i probably couldent buy a used turbo kit since i cant even trust a brand new one. However though i belive there is nothing wrong with the kit. Its all tuning it right so u might want to get an aem ems installed and completly tuned before you drive it like others said. At least that would be what i would do.

I know the seller personally. I also have this turbo kit on my own car. Who ever says that this kit sucks....is N/A. Just like most of the people that just constantly say that the e-manage is garbage...they dont have it themselves and are just spewing out stuff. The e-manage is more than sufficient and if you'll notice the people who say to ditch the e-manage and get the AEM EMS...they never had experience with either. The AEM is over-kill if you're only running 7PSI and especially if you're on a budget. Get the AEM EMS if you're going for some serious power where you've spent $1000's on building up the motor and are looking at 500+WHP...or else stick with the E-Manage....I'm sure the respected board member Wesmaster will definately agree with me on that.

It's a great turbo kit and a great option if you cant afford the speedcraft...or wont ever get upto the potential of the speedcraft (500+whp).

The kit is very very bolt on. Everything is pretty simple. One thing though...the oil feed line, get it done on your oil pan not the block itself like it says in the manual. Although it's bolt on and everything, the ECU is not tuned. Car will run very lean at idle and such and very rich when making boost. Until you tune the car, you probably wont make much more than 235whp @ 7psi because of the rich condition. Plus you risk the chance of blowing the motor when it runs lean.

GOTO A TUNER AND GET THE E-MANAGE STREET TUNED! Dont just do dyno WOT tuning. You need someone to sit in the car and tune while you drive....it really shouldnt cost you too much more and try to find a good tuner even if it costs more. Nothing compares to the cost of a blown motor because of bad tuning. If you read all the posts before about the Ultimate Racing kit, all the problems were because of the ECU not getting tuned. I'll be talking to the people at UR about changing what they wrote about it being tuned already to give the people some notice. Anyone with a A/F gauge that they read on their cars with the UR kit would notice how lean it runs...if that wasnt a clue, the knocking, pinging, sputtering shoulda been another clue.

Once you have it tuned, have fun....cause u will . I know I have been.

Oh, another thing, get new plugs. They recommend colder NGK's (think the number is specified in the manual) and then gapped to .022". I'd most probably gap it more. I couldnt find NGK's, so I just used copper plugs. About as cold as you can really get for plugs and they're dirt cheap. A good option if you just want the car started up and just drive around the neighborhood for a second but you cant find the NGK's or the Denso Iridiums for the car. DO NOT BUY PLATINUMS! You wont get anything but detonation with them.

Thanks a lot for the input. I will definitely do as you suggested because as you stated, a blown motor is no fun.
