limiterhitter,

Thanks for an excellent review. I must admit some disappointment, as of course everything I'd heard about the DSG from the press was absolutely glowing. Perhaps there will never be a true substitute for a clutch and gear selector for sporting driver.

Cheers!

Being as tall as we are, i would think that getting a fixed shell like the SPG or Pole Position would make it somewhat difficult to get in and out of the car with the top up... looks to me that the high bolsters would get in the way... Just my $.02

- Remove the driver's door pull and replace it with a leather strap (ala Porsche RSR, this makes frees up alot of left leg room)
huh ? I'm curious about this one....

I'm 6"2 and more than interested in doing anything and everything I can get for more legroom and to lower the seat, HOWEVER i cannot get a Recaro SPG because thieves will be too easily tempted - in my area, so my best bet is to lower the stock seat

basically what I mean by removing the drivers door pull is taking off the door panel and removing the loop that the driver would use to pull the door shut... from there you need to fabricate a way to use any kind of strap (I prefer a red leather one to simulate the old school Porsche race cars) in one of the existing holes so that you can use that to pull the door shut. Then make a plug to fill up the other hole... and BAM... you'll have more room to move your left knee left and right

Along with the flat bottomed Sparco Ring steering wheel that should free up alot of leg room.

If the "seat lowering mod" doesn't make enough room for you... you can always get the locking bolts that are available to use with the racing seats... I would personally get them for the stock seats as well since they arent that expensive for peace of mind.

Edit: I personally wouldn't install shell seats without the use of an aftermaket roll bar.. i know the S2K has factory roll hoops, but being as tall as we are, i'd want the extra security there... wouldn't hurt to have some harnesses in the car... it already feels like a race cockpit being as tight as it is...

my car wouldn't be a daily driver so I wouldn't hesitate to do these extreme mods since i dont need it every day... God I cant wait

no problem...

The thing about sliding the seat back and THEN reclining is the only way it works for me. If you recline first - you end up reclining too much and then you dont get the full travel of the seat rails backwards (which is much more important for us mutants than the extra recline click).

What does shell seats have to do with an after market roll bar? Just curious.....

Think about it... say your involved in a roll over... with stock seats and 3-point seatbelts as the car rolls over, your is allowed to roll out of the seat (your not pinned in place as you would be with a 4/5 point harness system), this allows the factory roll bars (or roof in a coupe) to absorb the impact force.

In a car with Shell style seats your body is held straight up and aftermarket harnesses further keep you pinned in place... so without a roll bar, your spine is left to absorb the force from the car sitting upside down... This is where a beefy roll bar comes into play...

Moral of the story... Fixed-back seats and harness bars/ harnesses are a big without proper roll over protection.

Hope this helps
