Default Use caution when installing Sonar clear side markers!!

I know several of you ordered the side markers from carparts.com on the same day I did. I got mine today and installed them. I'm going to be brief, it's convertible weather in MI and I need to get out and drive around! If you're installing these side markers don't expect to be able to pull them back out. They are an extremely tight fit. Also, because they fit so tightly it s easy to bend the metal of the car's body. If you try to push them in it will leave a dent!

I know of a series of small modification you can make to the side marker to make them a lot easier and safer to install. I'll write more on those later tonight. Also, if anyone has a digital camera and is willing to take some pictures of the side markers before installation I'd be willing to make a faq.

That is why you should get the Backyard Specials one ... JDM made like OEM ones and definitely weatherproof, some of you might find those Taiwan made blinkers have water vapors later on because of poor quality manufacturing.

Hello, let me clearify something. The Sonar sidemarkers are just the opposite of what you said. They fit a little loser than stock. Simple mods are needed to ensure a tite fit. We sell the same corners on the board and have them instock ready to ship if anyone is interested. I personally installed 3 sets and have had no problems with it denting the fender.

thanks

As 4IG said, the Sonars I have are an incredibly loose fit. They are also amazingly badly made.

I purchased replacements last weekend and will fit them shortly.

Well I ordered my clear side markers from carparts.com and they fit perfect. They are not loose at all. There are two different part numbers that will work for our car. One works well, one doesnt. I clearly stated the correct part number needed for a good fit. If you let carparts.com find parts for your car by vehicle type, then the part number given would be the bad one.

4igs2000- Yes, I was lying. Maybe I'm cheap, but I'd rather spend $14.95 and 10 minutes of my time to have decent looking side markers rather than spend $50. Please plug your side markers elsewhere.

Code3Smith- I did order with the part number you posted. The fact is, they are still made for a Civic. After a few simple mods, mine fit great! Thanks again for the suggestion.

[I realize these are quite possibly the worst pictures you have ever seen]
Anyway, this is what I found to work the best. First of all I took the rubber washers out of the stock side markers and replaced them with the rubber washers that came with the clears. The stock washers are rounded and make the bulb easier to lock into place. (the left washer is the stock washer)

Next I used a utility knife to shave around 1/16" (give or take, you'll be able to see if the side marker is rubbing) of plastic off of three places - both ridges to the right and left of the metal clip and above the clip itself.

Finally I removed the metal clip and shaved between 1/8" and 1/16" of plastic from the indent where the clip retracts. I did this because mine came such that the metal clip could only travel about halfway back. Shaving this extra plastic allows the clip to bend all of the way back, making it easier to install / uninstall.

Sorry that a) these pictures aren

Awesome.

Thanks a bunch for this information and the photos. If the bulbs go out and you have to remove these side markers, what are you supposed to do if they fit really tight?

You just provided the solution.

Thanks, again.
