I know I'm walking into a hornets nest with this one 'cause of all you V1 fanatics, but www.radartest.com gave higher scores to the Escort Passport 8500 and the BEL 980. I went with the 8500 (silver, like the S2000).

Seems like Mike Valentine has been riding on his past glory although a new model is in the works.

We'll see next week...

If we get a group buy, I am definitely in. I'm about to get one for myself anyway. I want it at least before the trip down to Texas World Speedway in Feb.

Kizneda,

Where did you get the Escort from? The reviews look good and I'm trying to find a cheap place online that sells them.

any leads appreciated.

Let me know if any of you can pull this off. Sometime ago the E36 M3 people tried to get Mike V to do a group buy with guarantee 35+ units and he still said no.

I agree. Just looked at the test page mentioned and found the scoring to be rather useless - radar sensitivity was lumped into one score, not bothering to differentiate between the different bands and the fact that there are significant differences in the various detectors to each band.

I will submit that newer models may well be doing better than the older models. As a fervent user of radar detectors since ~1990, I will stand up and vouch for the utility of the V1 compared to my older Escort and Passports. There is no comparison in detection range, especially on Ka band. Sure, someone is out there gunning for the V1 and may have even have matched or exceeded it. However, it will take time and tests to prove it. The site mentioned isn't one I'd put much stock in...
