Default VAFC and Cold Air Intake

Yeah -

I am getting my clutch done at a local speed shop. and after chatting a bit the guy tells me how the cold air intake is really good for an s2000. something like 10 whp, and when paired with a VAFC - Vtec Air Fuel Control you can see gains of 25 - 30 whp - w/ dyno'd proof.

OK...what do you guys think? I have read here on many occasions that cold air intake will give minimal gains, 2-3 hp, but that cold air intake is generally a mod to save weight, clean up your engine, and "sound cool". Mainly an astetic mod, no real performance.

Also, I have never read anyone referring to a VAFC and how good it is? What is this, and if it is so good why haven't I heard about it. The guy claims that by adjusting it I could bump the VTEC point down to 5200 - 5500 rpms on my 2002 S2000. Why hasn't everyone done this,? the mod only costs around $500.00.

Clutch INfo...what do you think...

Heavy Duty ACT Organic Disk - $506.00
Fidanza Flywheel - $337.00
Labor - 4 hrs total - $300.00

Having a clutch that doesn't slip - Priceless.

OK...Thats about it...Also, my S2k is Black...you SPA's can suck it

IF the VAFC tuner is good, you'll see 12-15whp gains

Def. not 25-30. I would think anywhere between 7-15, depending on the tune.

Although you'll see gains from a VFAC, my understanding is that the Honda ECU will learn and compensate for the changes and after time those gains will disappear unless you reset the ECU.

Have you been living in a cave somewhere?

Your speed shop guy is trying to sell you as much as he thinks he can get you to buy. He'll lie through his ass if it'll extract another buck out of your bank account.

VAFCs have been around for this car since the beginning of S2000 time. People have been posting about it for years. People have lowered their VTEC engagement point for years.

Why haven't you heard about it? Well, only you know the answer to that question. How was that cave?
