Using an online currency convertor, $399 USD equates to 276.59 British pounds. For 600 pounds son, I would be wanting shares in the UK company that is selling them to all you brits!
Even with international shipping and VAT that you might have to pay, it' still WAY cheaper to buy it in America. Unless of course, there is a compelling reason why you should get it in the UK - such as them performing mods to local conditions for you (UK frequencies).
As said earlier.....you could even take a vacation over here and buy it when you are in the states!
However, at less than half the price, what do you have to lose? You could buy it here in the US, try it, and if it doesn't work, sell it on Ebay or Ubid. You'll get next to your money back I promise. They are such an in-demand unit.

Sorry to have to tell you this....but you were just SEVERLY ripped off. I suggest that if they have a 30 day money back exchange guarantee that you return it immediately!
The X band removal is a USER-PROGRAMMABLE interface. ANYBODY can do it! I can give you the instructions if you want.
As for the 2 year warranty, I have NEVER heard of one single Valentine One packing up and dying. If it ever did, Valentine Research would stand behind their product and assist you immediately.
You were sold on moot points that were not 'buy from us because.....' advantages at all.
Get it direct from Valentine one and save a packet of money. British pounds aren't cheap - and you just paid about 150 more of them than you needed to!!!

PS. It's obvious UK Paul, that apart from the 'removal' of the X band (which anyone can do easily), there is NO physical difference between the what is available in the US an the UK. Save a ton and buy it direct. You can even get free over the phone technical support from Valentine Research.

I'm not familier with Valentines but while in NJ last week we stopped at a Mall and the guy at Circuit City went nuts when he found out I had an S2K. Anyway I was looking for a good detector and he told me the best were Vanentines but they can be as expensive as $4,500, was he on drugs or is this true?

If you would like, I would be happy to ship it to the UK for you guys. Although I am Australian, I also have a British passport as my dad was English - so I feel compelled to help two fellow Brits out!
If you paid for it and had it shipped to me in Michigan, you could pay Valentine Directly and then PayPal me the money separatley for insured shipping to the UK and I could FedEx it to you (there is a customer counter about 2 miles from my house). You'd save on VAT too as (if yu wanted me too) I could say it was a gift and thus write the value down for less money. If Valentine won't take your credit card, you could email me the purchase price and shipping and I could order it and put it on my credit card here.
