Default 'Vert Plastic Window Replacement With Glass

If i wanted to replace the plastic rear window w/a glass window, does that require a complete top replacement or can I just replace the window?

Thanks!

Well I just heard back from my body shop about 2 min ago regarding my soft top that they are replacing after my accident...

They basically said that a brand new OEM 00 soft top runs about 1000 and that if I wanted the glass rear window, that it would require a new vert frame piece so it fold correctly and of course the glass. Now w/o the defroster, the grand total for new top + these pieces was around 1900. He said for the defroster option, it would cost around 2400.

For the difference in price, I'd stay with the plastic window. The glass rear without or with the defroster would never be worth $900/$1400 difference to me. The glass is very nice but not for this kind of money.

thats what i was thinking. but if u never drive in the rain/cold you can just always drive with the top down!

Ive seen 00-01 tops w/ glass rear windows go for $700 or so on ebay. Either your shop is ripping you or their supplier is ripping them.

For $2400 I'd get a hard top.

If I'm spending that much, might as well spend a few more and get the hardtop. I will probably replace my top myself when the time comes...save alot of money! I have seen the robbins tops w/ glass on ebay for like 600 if I remember correctly

Guys,

The search engine is your friend on this one...
there have been numerous threads on soft top conversions over the years.
Frame replacement for the glass window is not necessary. And, a number of after market vendors exist for the tops.
