Default Video Camera for the track?

I'm trying to pick up a camera and a camera mount before I head out to the track next time and I was wondering if you guys can recommend a nice camera for that.

Also looking for a camera mount, but that should not be a problem

Thank you for the replies

Might be better options now days but chasecam.com or something similiar was decent stuff. Alot of guys make/buy a mount for a rollbar/harness bar and put a regular camcorder in there as well. They sell little suction cup mounting stuff that can be placed pretty much anywhere on the car for some crazy angles.

I have a bullet camera that attaches to my helmet. The 'shock absorbing' properties of the human body help even out the bumps, and I like the fact that the camera shoots wherever I'm looking, so instead of seeing the grass outside of a tight corner, I see the corner on the video.

Oleg, I use a MP Tuning mount (I don't think they're available anymore though). It replaces the windscreen and is very solid. I have a Canon Elura 100 16:9 camera with a wide angle lens on it...

At a recent autox: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUo1RoBO5A4
At Fall Colors 07: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hSgIUptWcQ&feature=user

The track video's aspect ratio is all messed up though, you can see I worked out the bugs w/ encoding it to fit youtube's 4:3 ratio.

I have a Panasonic s10 something. It's water and dust resistant have it can take a slight beating. It's and SD camera tho so your record time is only about 40 min per card. It great for fun drives tho.

I have exactly what your looking for!!!

Ever wondered what they used on the Toque battles?!?!

I just ran into a few similar systems that are pretty affordable and you can run up to 4 cameras on the system.

here are some pics:

The cameras are 550tv lines and are the closest things to HD in the bullet camera field.

Everything is Solid State so you dont have to worry about G-force ruining the video. The system takes CF cards so you can run well beyond 32Gigs for recording and on the systems highest settings that equals about 8hrs of continuous record time. All the cameras are secured with suction cups to the car making it less evasive and easy to remove by hand. The suction mounts have been tested to withstand speeds beyond 180mph hehe on my R1 so dont worry about them falling off.

Here is a few pics of the system at lil Tally:

the mounts are low profile and if you look at the top passenger side of the windshield you will truly see what I am talking about.

We typically mount the cameras on the trunk lid, on the wind blocker, on the passenger front quarter panel and on the windshield. we have alternate locations such as the drivers footwell and front and rear bumpers.

That looks pretty cool! How much do those systems usually run for?
Any available video samples?

I made my own camera mount with some supplies that are easily found at home depot. I bought a flat piece of aluminum bar, probably like 2 inches wide by 3 feet long, cut it, screwed it in place of my windscreen with some rubber bushings inbetween the screws to prevent vibrations, and screwed my camera to it, works perfect. Plus it only cost $15.

I dont have a pic of the mount though, but it works really great. If you're looking for something cheap, I suggest you take this route.

edit: I found an autocross pic where you can sorta make it out.
