Hey all! I’ve been a member here for quite some time and have owned my red s2000 since 2010. I’ve been considering selling at least one of my cars to make room for a new car. Has anyone had any experience/ drive time with a gen 5 viper? Quality, drive experience, etc.
One of my favorite parts about the s2000 is the gearbox, super smooth, and honestly one of the nicest manual feeling cars I’ve driven. How’s that compare to the viper gearbox? Is it sloppy or sorta comparable? I realize the viper is a lot bigger than an s2000 and probably not as nimble, but for where I live and what I’d use it for it won’t really matter in that aspect.
I rarely get a chance to drive my cars. Less than 100 miles a year combined for each. Between oil changes once a year and tranny/ differential every few years the maintenance is a little much for both cars that don’t get utilized.
The viper isn’t for everyone with a v10 and the looks. Some people love it and some people don’t. I personally love it, the way that car came from the factory is ridiculous. I don’t foresee America ever building a car like this again.
For anyone that has been around one, driven one, I would appreciate some feedback. The Supra would stay with me for now. Thanks!
I can't speak to a Gen 5 Viper, but I love my Gen 2.
Keep in mind that the 2 cars are completely different experiences. For me its the fact that the V10 makes torque and power without working too hard. The S2k you have to keep boiling to keep it in the sweet zone.
Unless you are a very competent track racer, you prob will never see a lot of the capability of the Gen 5 ACR.
I know the creature comforts have come a long way since the beginning of the Viper. You will prob get lots of attention in it, good and Bad.
Don't let anyone say Vipers can't turn (drive/track well on curves) Their racing program is proof of that.
I really like the fact that they went back to the Gen1/2 styling that they had drifted from in the Gen3/4 for the Gen 5. Car looks great IMO.
Good luck in your decision. If Possible, keep both like I did
The fact that you have 3 S2k's I think is safe to say that if you're left with 2 you will have the option to scratch that "s2000" itch when you get it.
Go for the Viper for sure! Diversify your stable!
I have 0 experience with any Viper of any gen - sorry no help there.
If you sell one of the CR's you will fetch a pretty penny!
I've never been in a gen 5 viper but I'm willing to pontificate on something I only have a vague idea of. I didn't even look up the going rate for the car...
The Viper ACR seems like a pretty special car and something that will likely continue to rise in value. The last of its kind (as a viper) and I doubt you'll ever see an American car with a V10 and a manual again. As mentioned, you'll need some serious skills to really poke at the limits of the car. I hope they all end up on a track but I understand why they'll be collectable and I don't think there's any doubt that they will. I don't know the market for these cars at all but I don't see any point in which they will be less desirable than they are now. I think you could always sell it and get an S2k. That is, unless some reason the CR prices get even nuttier. Entirely possible but I don't see how a CR can outprice a Viper ACR.
Nice AP1, too. I'd have a hard time kicking either of your S's out but the ACR would be on my list if I could afford it too.
