Default VooDoo / Knobs and Messed Up Threads

I have no idea how, but somehow I messed up the threads on my VooDoo spun aluminum knob. Maybe I had it on too tight. Now I can only screw it on two full revolutions before it gets stuck. Anyone ever have this problem? I guess it's only $40 for another one, but I just got it

It fits the Miata. The threads were messed up before I got rid of the S2k though.

I am going to wait a few months and see if I decide to get a house or not. If not, I will get another

Did you strip the threads off it or just cross thread it. If you cross threaded it and not to badly you can get a tap the same size and thread count and try rethreading it. If you stripped the thread out then there is no "meat" left on the threads you MIGHT try using a heli-coil. But to be honest if it's $40 you have to decide if thats worth it.

The Miata threads and the Honda threads are differant. The size is the same (M10) but the thread pitch are differant. x1.25 vers 1.50.

So if you try to install an S2000 knob on a Miata or a Miata knob on a Honda, you will trash the threads.

Same thing happened to my Voodoo. There was a little shard of steel from the OEM shifter shaft (try and say that real fast after 5 tequila shots) which stuck the knob after a few turns. Stupidly I muscled it down a few more turns until it completely jammed. Luckily I could re-tap the knob, good thing as I can't live without my Voodoo.

Here's how to modify your Mazda shifter for the S2000 knob:

I wanted to use a J's Ti Shift Knob (with the Honda 10 x 1.5mm thread) on my Scion xA. Not only is the thread different, but the shaft is 12mm, not 10mm.

I wanted a very short shifter like in the S, so I trashed the OEM shifter and used an aftermarket short shifter.

First I had to turn the shaft down to 10mm, then I cut off the threaded portion and retapped it to 10 x 1.5mm.

I'm using a Voodoo Black XL knob until the J's Ti knob comes in.

You could do the same thing to your OEM Mazda shifter.
