I knew what it did, but not how it did it or what it stood for prior to buying my car.

I've known what VTEC stood for since the introduction of the NSX back in 1990.
As a long time Honda fan (1973) and a F1 fan I would have loved to be able to afford an NSX (my dream car since they were introduced). I understand the engineering involved as Honda has always been creative (CVCC engine) in the 1979 Accords.

Back in the 90's before the FIA changed the rules (like they are going to do at the end of this F1 season because of Ferrarri's dominance) Honda was getting over 1,000 HP out of a 1.5 liter engine!

had it in my '96 GS-R.

What irks me the most is when I see it spelled in the form V-TECH on the for sale ads

isn't V-TECH a cordless telephone manufacturer?

I like this link. I really want to make one of these potato cannons. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine2.htm
I made one of these about 6 years ago. Get about 2.5-3 ft. of 2" PVC pipe and a 4" T, 2 4"caps for the T and a 4"-2" reducer, lantern igniter, (I liked the flint type better than the electric) put it all together similar to this ------------------T. Drill a Hole in the cap at the rear and put the igniter in there and tighten it up well so the air cannot excape. Once you shoot it it will sound like a shotgun firing and the pototoe will go an extremely long ways. Also if you have never seen one shoot, never shoot it at anyone or anything as the pototoe will cause serious injury.

read about it, but like chaseabryant, didn't remember it. I kept on thinking that it meant variable timing engine control, or something like that. hahahahaha. oh well.

VTEC is Honda's version of GM's HEI (Heat Extraction Incabulator), right?
