Default VTEC Issues Or Is It Just Me?

Hi, the last couple days that I have been driving, I have noticed that the power seems to fall off noticeably before 9Grand. It also seems that the VTEC comes on less abruptly as well. Is this normal?

On Saturday I changed my oil and prior to that time the car seemed to pull to 9Grand without any noticeable decrease in power and the VTEC engagement was more noticeable. Now it seems that the Powerband has been smoothed out. Any ideas? I used synthetic motor oil and a honda oil filter if this matters. One last thing... Is 1st gear supposed to go past 40mph?

yes, i usually hit 42 or 43 in 1st. Have you reset your ECU or disconnected your battery in the past week? How much oil did you put in? So what your saying is that you don't think VTEC is engaging, yes?

If done properly, an oil change should have nothing to do with this.

I didn't think that an oil change would have an effect on it either. I have not reset my ecu or disconnected power or anything.

I poured in a full five quart bottle of oil as opposed to the Honda recommended 5.1 quarts.

I believe that the VTEC is engaging but I don't really know because before it was very distinct and now it just doesn't feel the same. It feels almost as if the car is struggling to get to 9Grand

Did you put a heavier weight oil in the car than you had before?
Fresh oil will make the engine run smoother. Do you think maybe less noise=less power?

were you running regular oil before? when I switched to synthetic, there was a noticeable difference in the smoothing of the "vtec kick" when you hit 6000 rpms.

no loss of power, just a much smoother transition into vtec

Hey guys

Thanks for your replies. I do not believe that synthetic was used previously.

I am using 5 weight oil.

This car is bone stock.

So you think that perhaps it is the VTEC kick that is throwing things off for me? It seems as if now it takes the car longer for me to hit the red.

Emil St Hilare Do you think that I should put it through the quarter without a baseline? I don't know if that would really help me

My power completely shuts down around 8000rpm, I think a little over. When I rev the engine, the power keeps increasing until I get to a little over 8K rpm and then it's like I hit a brick wall.
