How difficult is it to quickly glance down at the tach and see that the revs are above 6000 RPMs? The tach gives such an obvious indication because the VTEC crossover point is basically straight-up on the tach. Anything to the right of the center point and you're in VTEC. You don't even need to read any numbers.

Think you're missing the point. He is not doing this to indicate when the car is in VTEC, that is overly apparent by the scream and jump of the car - it is an enthusiast mod that he is sharing with us.

I hope you're not having to look at the tach to see if you're in VTEC, if so, then you need to see your nearest Honda dealer and let them know your VTEC solenoid is not kicking in....

Who cares if the guy wants to put white walls and curb finders on his car?

After all it is HIS car...I am not saying that people are not free to express their feelings when it comes to mods, but some of the stuff that you guys wrote is plain out childish...Give him a break...It is not like he is forcing you to put the light on your car or anything...

If you don't like the VTEC light idea, just say so, there is no need for the bashing and flaming...I think some of the people on this site need to either grow up or need an attitude adjustment, or maybe even BOTH...

Thank you.

By the way, I don't have any gripes about people modifying their cars (my signature shows what few things I've done).

it's just a vtec light.. it's less than a $5 mod.. if u can get an LED for cheaper that is.. it's like why do u all get ricks badges, do u not know it's an s2000?! of course he knows when vtec kicks in, he just wants to have some thing light up to look cool, leave him alone. and again, no i don't have this mod.. i'm just defending him cuz u guys all flame him.

Well, looks like you all have scared xv7vx off, so I'll explain the mod (no, I don't have it on my car, except as part of my VAFC).

VTEC does not just engage/disengage at 6K. The ECU takes into account several factors, such as throttle position, oil pressure, current VTEC state, etc. Actual engagement or disengagement can occur at a variety of rpms, or not at all, depending on conditions. Therefore this simple mod can be of genuine use in troubleshooting a malfunctioning, or just modified, engine.

And yes, some people just like the look.

I don't care what he says or what lights when he gets in his car... I just think if he can wire in a light in his car, he could learn to use a spell checker.

You know, when I was 16, had long hair and smoked pot, I had an ugly 72 Ford Maverick with a 3-speed automatic on the column. I carefully took the letters PRND21 off the plastic thingy on the column and used rub-on letters to replace them with STONER. Why? Because I thought it was funny. It didn't perform any useful function, nor did it serve as an indicator as to how high I was, it was just plain funny. If the man wants to put a VTEC light in his car, then more power to him. It's not like he's talking about putting a chain steering wheel in it or hanging fuzzy dice from the RV mirror...
