Default VTEC is overrated

I see so many posts about people getting the thrill of their lifetime "hitting VTEC". I don't see what the big deal is. I don't even think VTEC is as pronounced as many people say it is. Are a lot of you on here coming from previous ownership of non-vtec vehicles? My last car was an Acura CL. Maybe thats why? I just don't see the big deal- thats all.

I think more of a thrill for me is climbing the rev meter up to 9000, but that extra jolt at 6000 adds quite a bit to the excitement! The VTEC points are more noticeable at lower gears, too. I can barely feel the VTEC kick in at 6th.

You really notice being in/out of VTEC on a track. Coming out of a corner below 6000 makes you shake your head, but keeping it in the powerband is a joy to get right.

the SOHC VTEC that you have is a different type than the DOHC VTEC's in the F20c, B-series, and K20A's (the K20's in the new Si's and the K24's in the accord are different even though they are DOHC VTEC's). Note, the i-VTEC only means that VTC has been added (which can make the VTEC transition feel less violent since the intake cam timing is being changed infinately)

yeah, i do understand it is different, but having owned both vehicles, CL and S2k, the VTEC does not feel as pronounced in either as some claim. I thought this might be due to the fact that i've only owned vtec vehicles and am not making a fair comparison since I really dont have experience driving "non-vtec" vehicles.

the f20c has a pretty aggressive vtec engagement point, but the ITR(b18c5) has a much more pronounced vtec engagement point. the nsx has a pretty smooth vtec engagement(which isnt a bad thing).

I dont care! I love the little 4cylinder in the s2k and I love the VTEC! its tons of fun! My favorite gear for hitting VTEC is in 2nd and 3rd. More so than hitting it, I like how the car just responds to the throttle within VTEC, especially in 2nd,3rd, and 4th ! instant power on tap.

I think this is just a post to stir everyone up! Maybe Honda S2000's are over-rated? . . . . . NOT!

I agree with REV IT. For me, the VTEC engagement point is not as noticable as some people here have described it. I've tried it under many different circumstances... different gears, different amounts of throttle. The engine sound ascends and grows louder. The power increases, but it feels like a steady curve; not a kick in the ass at 6000 rpms as others have stated. It makes me wonder if Honda made some changes, or if a lot of this is in our heads.

this post wasn't meant to stir anything up. No, i dont think the S2000 is overrated. Don't get me wrong, the 9,000RPM redline is exhillerating and gets my heart going everytime, but the VTEC engagement is the subject here. I do not believe I feel this "kick" as many people have experienced.
