VTEC question......
Remember, Mitsubishi did "invent" the Japanese Zero, for almost four years the best performing airplane of WWII. Fourteen cylinders, 1320 HP, 340 mph @10,000 feet, the hero of Pearl Harbor as far as the Japanese were concerned.
Mitsubishi launced MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing and lift Electronic Control) in 1993, so they weren't slow to get going when honda said VTEC. I've driven both a Colt MIVEC and an FTO MIVEC, and the engines are far from being a Honda engine, but they're still great engines.

Lotta crapping on Misubishi here guys but don't forget the Porsche 924/944/968 motor was based on a regular Mitsubishi 4 cylinder Astron engine as appeared in the K car and a whole lot of other '80s Chryslers.
Porsche still pays Mitsubishi royalties on the balance shaft technology they use which was patented by Mitsubishi.
