Default VTEC question - Difference in 04 vs 07?

Hey guys,

I just picked up an 04 S2000 with 20,000 miles on it. My buddy has a new 07 S2000 and it feels like his VTEC is much more noticeable. I can hear and feel mine but I have to really be looking for it and sometimes it sounds like it doesn't even come on.

Are there any major differences between the 2 years? Any reason for my VTEC to go soft on me?

Thanks guys

Low oil can impede VTEC engagement.

calgary, you have to mash on the gas all the way to feel the Vtec.(if you don't you won't feel it kick in)also check your throttle cable for slack.(1/4 inch play is good)

You may need a valve adjustment also. I did one on my '04 at about 24k miles and the improvement was noticable. Many of them were out of spec.

I don't think it should change VTEC engagement at all because it is AP2 no less.

What is a valve adjustment? Also, how much does it cost to get done.

I know they changed the exhaust a little bit in the 06+ didn't they? My buddies 07 is noticeably louder and raspier then my car, and his car is DBW. Could this be the reason for the difference?

I think valve adjustment is that you need to computer to realign the value. That cost like a few hundred buck at the dealer.

guys, valve adjustment helps low end pick ups. It really doesn't make a difference beyond vtec point. 04 and 05s are noticibly anemic compared to AP1. 04 S2000 with 01 ECU completely changes the car. Heavy fly wheel doesn't help either. But anyways, I'd check the intake filter element, oil then last place would be the valve adjustments.

But keep in mind, 04s are noticibly quiter when vtec engages compared to AP1. Not sure about the sound of 07.
