Default Vtec seems "off"

Hey all!
I was out today cruisin' in my S and thought I'd give her a little workout. I bring her up to 6500 rmp's....nothing.....7000 rmp's.....still nothing.....7500 rpm's and still nothing! I know by this point I should have felt Vtec kick in. The car was sufficiently warm (3 bars showing on the temp gauge), just had an oil change done (by me ) on Saturday, and the oil level is fine. I know it's a little off because it's nothing like the way it used to be. Any ideas on what it could be?

Thanks!

~Kim~

I tried it in both 1st and 2nd gears and definitely wasn't inching up on the rpm's.

Take the cover off of your air filter box, and try it again. If you can't hear VTEC kick in with the cover off, then you need to go to the dealer. If you can hear it kick in, then you probably are either just getting used to it, or it is just suffering from heat soak.

I agree, if you can't hear it with the cover off, take it to the dealer and have them check it out to be on the safe side.

If you do take the cover off, put it back on after you are done "testing".

Kim, Alicia drove your car on Saturday and didn't say anything to me about vtec not kicking in. I'll ask her tonight if she thought there was a problem.

Richie, I don't know if she would've gotten the rpm's that high. But ask her and see what she says. Even before the oil change, I thought it seemed a bit different than before....but I chalked that up to a lower than normal oil level.

If you didn't get the oil changed at the dealer, make sure the service light isn't on. If it is, it prevents it from Vtec kicking in.

Which service light are you referring to? The Maintenance Required light doesn't prevent VTEC, and the Check Engine Light only prevents VTEC if there is a serious problem.
