on an otherwise stock car. .there really is no point to dropping the vtec engagement point.

it is at ~5900 because thats when the little cam runs out of breath.

and it doesnt engage before because the big cam would lose power if you brought it down too low.

the lowest i've seen is 4500, that's with the hondata/toda reflash. but even then, i dont see the point unless you autocross or road race, and even then it would only help you stay in your powerband longer.

if you really want to lower it, pick up a v-afc2 or a neo, or an emanage.

then, go to a dyno tuning place. and set it to engage as far as possible.. like 9,000rpm and dyno..

then, have it engage veryyy low, like 2500-3000. dyno again.

then take a look at both dynoes on top of each other, and where the lines cross is where you should set it.

let's say your tq curves cross at 5,000 rpm. .then you should lower vtec to 5,000.. nothing more, nothing less.

something like that...

hope that helps.

Do you guys realize that the OP is 13 years and 11 months old. He can't even drive yet. He may know "how" VTEC works but he has no clue "what it does to the engine". Heck, he doesn't even understand what this "statement" means since he has yet to address it.

Wow where'd the 2003 Silver S come from? Its gotta make him the youngest S2000 owner on the site. Can you image him talking to the loan officer.

Haha, you need to do some homework. For one with a vtec contorller the lowest vtec setting is 3k or so, also speaking form experience(i had a vafc on my b16 civic) Vtec is set where it is form the factory so you can feel it engage thats why there is a dip in hp the the huge boost of vtec, also you can lower but the best you will most likly be able to do is smooth out the enagement(take away the dip in hp and torque) then you can't feel it like you do. When lowering it way down the engine gets too much air at the particular rev range and it runs like junk(boosted applications lower vtec enagmnet b/c they are getting the air at lower rev ranges). Just my 2 cents, I know the S is'nt exactly like my 2000 civic but they are booth dohc and vtec and thats what i ran into when i was tuning my civic w/ an afc.
