You can't just clean it. You're suppose to re-oil the filter after cleaning because the filter catches the larger particles with just the filter alone. The oil helps to stick the small particles on.

Also after repeated cleaning (twice) on a AEM filter I had wore out the filter material.

I seriously doubt that a rock or some other debris would be sucked up through a properly installed CAI with the filter in place.

LOL. So basically what your saying is the dealership noticed something was wrong with the car, looked at the first modified part, and said that caused the problem... hmm i get it.. dirt or a rock Went through an 'AIR FILTER.'.. PRetty soon, Eibach Springs will be responsible for seatbelt recalls

j/p.. it does sound strange though

I have alway been leary of CAI's on an engine I want to last a long time. Yes, they probably flow more air, and almost certainly pull in cooler air, but I would suggest that someone do an oil analysis before and after a CAI install. I would bet that there would be a significant difference in the silicon content, and maybe wear elements. Also, there is some risk to the mass airflow sensor if enough oil vapor is sucked from the filter.

I do love the way they sound, though.....

Rocks? Through a filter element? Right... sure.

I really, really hope that this diagnosis didn't come from a dealership that i have used.

[sarcasm]
Wow... so the problem is due to the CAI pulling in rubbish, but magically it only affects no:4 cylinder?
[/sarcasm]

Since no:4 cylinder problems have been seen on standard cars, it's unlikely to be the CAI.
