Hi everyone,

after seeing group buys on FPRs, superchargers and everything else, i have great concerns.

Simply, given the price of the car, if one was to modify, one should do it properly.

THat is, get a proper programmable or piggy back ecu.

I cant believe products like the comptech supercharger are still working on the principal of a fpr.

for example, a piggy back unit is probably USD$500?? - allowing tuning of fuel and timing.

use of a fpr assumes a linear/quadratic increae of fuel pressure - this is not appropriate.

And for everyone who is complaining about boosting a highly tuned engine, it is detonation that kills the engine not boost - ie. do the fuel and timing properly.

Also, anyone with a JRSC or similar can attest to poor off-boost response b/c they lower their timing to accomodate their on-boost. The ONLY way to fix this is to adjust the timing at that point independantly - ie. Prgrammable ECU. - it is a wrong to only look at full throttle dyno output.

Tze, finally somebody that sees the light. I was discussing this when the first GB FPRs came up.

very nice...I think the s2k in Import Tuner magz that claiming up to 450hps is having that very same problem, fuel/timing.

so true

Hell when we used to spray our street driven chevelles and camero's we often had the abbility to retart or advance timing from inside the car. When the car is fast anyway, but want it to be really fast for those special occasions it's nice to be able to retard the timing and spray it.

Amazing. Dark ages tech on mods for a leading edge car? Hmm, check this out:
http://asia.vtec.net/beystock/hondata/

When / if available for an S2000 it might be a better approach than something primitive like adding fuel pressure. I like the full throttle shift and launch control options too. Some BMW racers I know with the FTS on different cars claim that it saves a 1/10 of a second per shift.

I would really like to hear Comptech's rebuttal on Tze's post. Mike@Comptech, would you like to rebut? Looking forward to hear from you!

One of the reasons we took my car to the dyno with an FPR is to test various fuel pressures and look at the big picture (HP readings at various RPMS).

With the FPR we were expecting loosing power on some rpm points and gaining on others but we were able to gain across the whole rev range (strange).

Now, I definetly agree that a stand alone ECU would be the best but considering tuning work, type of mods available for the S2K and emissions it may be better to just get an APEX V-AFC.

Wow - I am gone for a few days and I come back to find ppl agree with me!!

Pepe - I wasnt saying that a FPR was a complete downer - in fact it should theoretically be great in terms of a cost benefit approach.

My problem was that ppl were going to buy a FPR, whack it on, and just lean it out without proper dyno tuning.

Even with dyno tuning, it is nigh impossible to hear detonation sometimes - that is why you either need a J&S knockguard which retards timing, or you make an amplified headphone sthescope thing to listen (check out www.autospeed.com.au if interested)

I am intersted in what comptech has to say - look at JR, they recently released a plug in module with predefined maps - better that than nothing.
