Just the typical story. Politicians run on the "cut taxes" platform, but the money has to come from somewhere.

I saw another quote on this where someone called it the "full employment for traffic lawyers act".

I've said it probably 10 times in 10 different threads, but I'm going to post it again. I hate Va traffic laws (hated it before the new law).

I will run from cops if they are going to charge me that much in fines for 20 MPH over the speed limit.

If I'm going to be fined, then I might as well give them a really GOOD reason to do so.

Well just think. You could live in Europe and get fined about $20 for doing 2 mph over the limit when the speed cameras get you.

How can that be consitutional? I smell a challenge.
Most of the lawyers here can't wait to get these cases. I think the folks making the biggest deal out of it now are the people who don't live in Virginia.

There's really only two ways to go about enforcing the law. The first is to catch every offender and give them a ticket (speed cameras, etc). The second is to make the penalty so severe that nobody would consider breaking the law. Looks like VA is trying the latter.

I'm curous how it will turn out. I'm sure more tickets will be fought and the court costs will skyrocket. All the sudden it's worth the time and money to go to court for Virginians.

The cost of the ticket has never been a deterrent for me. I live in GA and my last ticket was $160 for 65 in a 45. It's the commensurate increase in insurance on an already expensive car that's scary.

Yeah, the news is all over the V-dub forums now too... My friend just put his R32 up for sale *specifically* because of this damn law:
