Check yours too!
I just got my S out of the shop because of this problem. The problem got so bad that it finally broke the clutch and damaged some of the gears. I had 4 out of 6 gears replaced. The the mechanic said that part of my clutch disk was broken off. I was just dismissing the grinding as the normal 1 to 2 and 4 to 5 grind in the S2000. But I was very wrong.

It's the grey cap. The blue thing is my Vortech FMU, so won't see this unless you have a S/C.

mine is dark, but not black... same as it has been for awhile now.
dont think that dark fluid indicates a problem, but have not seen black fluid before.
i imagine that black would not be good.

The manual (Helm) makes no specific mention of clutch fluid maintenance. It does, however, indicate to inspect "ALL" fluids and check condition there of, every year. I'm sure that there are many, many owners of this car who do not even realize we have a hydraulic clutch and would not even think to look for it. The "blackness" of the clutch fluid may not purely be an indication of water absorption or even deterioration of the fluid to a critical extent. I believe that it is partly due to the sloughing off of seal material into the fluid that causes the color change. I have also noticed that the original fluid goes dark within months, while after a fresh change, the color stays stable much, much longer. Why? I'm not really sure.
The manual does happen to say that brake fluid is to be changed every 3 years or 45,000 miles. My neighbour, who happens to be a brake specialist, has told me that it is wise to change brake fluid annually to keep the system in good working order and to reduce the effects of water absorption, which will start rust formation. If the car is tracked, brake fluid changes should be done frequently. As I don't track my car, I plan to compromise and do the brake fluid every couple of years.

This is my opinion only: I think Honda made two over sights with regards to fluid changes in the maintenance schedule. One is the clutch fluid and the other is the diff fluid. Both these should be changed out within the first year, possibly even at 6 months or sooner, depending on the type of mileage being accumulated.

The clutch fluid literally takes 5 minutes to flush. I do it when I do a brake flush. Now I don't have any 1/4 full cans of ATE sitting around
