Default Warrenty Advice

hello, i have a 2005 silverstone with 4300 miles. it is a january car, so is it too early to get the 1 year service done? the car is certified used, believe it or not, and i wanted to do my work on the car, but i was thinking for the first service at least i should let them do it? i was quoted 269 dollars for 1 year service and then i was going to do the diff myself, but i was thinking i could do the diff and tranny myself and just get an oil change by them. i've inquired in the past about maintenence and warrenty, but i never thought about in the long run, because my hondacare comes after the remaining factory is up.

so. what do you guys think?

#: See information on maintenance and emissions warranty, middle column, page 124 of your owner's manual.
this is from honda's ownerslink

also its not mentioned on this i dont know why, but they say the flush the coolant and change the tranny fluid. is a 1 year service different from a first year service? i said 1 year when speaking with the dept guy.

thanks

Sounds like a $269 oil change to me....everything else you listed is just "inspected." I think you could check this stuff yourself if you are half way handy. I would invest in a HELMS manual if you do the maintenance yourself. If you do decide to do it yourself, also invest in a log book and document EVERYTHING you do to the car (reference manual pages if you can). This is a CYA thing to prevent Honda from trying to blame any problems on your "service."

Something is not right with the information you acquired. For one thing, there is NO coolant flush at the one year mark. All S2000s subsequent to the first MY (2000) comes with Honda Type II coolant. The service manual states that the first change is at 10 years (even though I think it should be done about 1/2 that time), so flushing the coolant in the first year is just plain wrong and may be an indication of the erroneous nature of the other information given.
I would suggest you just go through the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual and do it all yourself. Save all your receipts and keep a log of all the work you do. Use the correct fluids and do the checks yourself. Most of what you need to know is in the FAQs at the top of Technical. You do not have to get any service done at the dealer in order to keep the warranty valid.

PS. One thing that I believe the Honda maintenance is remiss on is the first rear diff fluid change. You should consider doing this one now, given the mileage you just indicated. The tranny fluid is not as critical and in fact, the schedule indicates quite a long time and mileage span for this change. Do it only if you feel the tranny is not functioning to your satisfaction.

PPS. Also keep in mind that there is NO OEM Honda (car division) rear diff fluid. Read the "Oil Journals" to decide what fluid you should be using.

i do know about the diff stuff and thats why i was going to do it myself either way. ive inquired here before about warranty info and have gotten the same answer, but i have also heard that hondacare is more uptight about mods and such so in my head i was thinking maybe they would just void me something because i did the work. no?

and the guy said that 1 year svc = moderate service so maybe thats why theres the coolant change? i duno. i'll call again tomorrow but maybe theres a difference between a 1 year service and a every consecutive year service.

I can't answer this one for you. You'll have to ask this of the warranty guy at the dealership and hope he doesn't lie to you just to generate business for his dealership's service dept.

As for the coolant, I think they're just trying to drum up business. Type II coolant is "long life". There is no first year flush. To confirm this, read your owner's maintenance schedule. What does it say?
