Default Washing the Car Cover

I think the previous owner of my s2k just left the car cover lying on the ground in his garage for a while. Everytime I use the car cover I get a pretty good amount of dirt/dust on the car. There is also a little bit of what seems like tree sap on the underside of it that transfered onto the door because it's so hot here right now. Luckily some car bug/tar remover got rid of it.

Anyways can I just put my cover in the washing machine and dryer? I don't want any shrinkage or anything.

NO! The OEM cover has to be washed on the car with light duty detergent and air dried. Try spot remover on the sap while the cover is off the car.

??? I washed mine in the washing machine with mild detergent on the gentle cycle and dried it in the dryer using the no heat setting and it came out just fine. I actually found washing instructions for it somewhere, though I can't remember where, that said you could do that.

I don't remember where I got this word document, but it is the same as the instructions that came with my Honda car cover.

"The cover can be washed while it is on the car, using a small amount of Liquid Fantastik Cleaner and a soft brush or sponge. Use water to completely rinse off the cleaner. Leave the cover on the car, or draped over a clothesline or wall, and allow it to air dry.
The cover can also be washed in a large automatic washer found in most commercial laundromats. A home-sized washer is too small. DO NOT use a washer with an agitator as this can rip or tear the fabric. Use two (2) cups of Liquid Fantastik Cleaner. DO NOT use soap or detergent. Cover can be washed in warm water. Water must not exeed 185 degrees F.
Run it through two rinse cycles. It is very important that the cleaner is thoroughly removed.
If the cover is dried in an automatic dryer, use "low heat" or "air" setting only! The cover can also be air-dried draped over a clothesline, wall or on the car."

I washed mine in a large commercial washer with detergent and dried it in a machine and it was just fine and a lot cleaner.

According to the instructions that come withthe top, the cover can be washed in a large commercial washer using Liquid Fantastik Cleaner. The cover than can be line dried, on a wall, on the car or a commercial dryer at a low heat setting. I've sent these instructions a couple of times to owners.

If your cover is the OEM cover, you are NOT supposed to use regular laundry detergent. The instructions for the cover specifically state to use Liquid Fantastik Cleaner and says nothing about a fabric softener.
