Water used to bead up on the top and now it does not. Just bought a BMW-Z4 and salesman said to use a product that soaks into the top to seal it (For the Honda S2K also). He said never wash with soap, which I have. Does anyone have any comments on this? Thanks....

 

Is this an S2000 you are asking about? I f not, this should be in Car Talk. Moderator?

The S2000 top is waterproof whether it beads or not, since it is PVC (vinyl). It is important to keep it clean, which washing with clear water or the same car wash used for the body will provide. Many people use 303 Protectant, or Ragg's o9ccasioonally to maintain UV protection, pliability, and water beading.

I do not know what the Z4's top is - what does your owner's manual say?

303 makes separate kits for vinyl and cloth convertible tops, which has a stronger cleaner for spot cleaning stains, and then either 303 Vinyl Protectant, or a special one for cloth, which has a strong, oil smell.

 

Sorry. Yes... this is a S2K I am talking about. The Z4 top is cloth. I thought the S2K was cloth, too. Glad I did not put anything on it yet!!

 

I agree with Road Rage, use 303 for the top. I was able to find both the cleaner and protectant at West Marine.

 

I know that place! I got kin down in Hampton area - Naval aviators flying special missions down to S. America - ever seen a huge yacht called "Passion"? My bro-in-law is captain.

 

My parents live on the bay. I'll to have to keep an eye out for it when I'm jetskiing.

About the 303 cleaner and protectant. Great stuff!! A little pricey but well worth it. It keeps my top looking like brand new. I always see it at boating places like West Marine and Boater's World more than auto parts places. I know you can order the stuff online but why pay shipping when you can pop on down to your nearest boating store (that's if you live near a large body of water like me )

Thanks to all for the input. Love the S2k better than the Z4. Just drove the Z4 to see someome and wished I had driven theh S2k. Much more fun!!! Really.
