Default Weighted shift knob and cold 2nd gear shifts

My 1-2 shift in cold weather is a bit notchy--after some searching around here it's apparently not all that uncommon. After the car's been driven for a bit the notchy feeling goes away.

I've got a lighter-than-stock countersunk shift knob right now and I think it might be time to invest in one of the heavier knobs. I've heard this helps the notchy feelings go away or become less noticeable. Is it worth buying a heavier knob just for this (even though I've already got a countersunk knob)?

I did these three things that helped the notchiness go away:

1. Change transmission fluid to GM Synchromesh Friction Modified
2. Replace clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder
3. Regrease shifter bushing

Anything else is a band-aid

With any weighted shift knob it will numb/remove the notchy feeling felt with a aluminum or light weight shift knob for sure. So it should feel better, but not totally remove the cold 2nd gear shifts

I have tried both new fluids in the S2000 and Integra GSR. FM felt smoother in both cars, and I kept the same fill in the GSR for 40k miles. As for regular Synchromesh, I can't comment. On top of my experience, I just can't dig a fluid that is destined to go into a FWD transaxle 98% of the time.

^^ Agreed. I changed to GM fluid and Honda (green bottle). Both felt slightly better when I did it. But the weighted shift knob made the most difference to me. And like the above poster said, it wont eliminate the cold shift completely.

I got a skunk2 one btw. I forget how much it weighs exactly.

The notchiness is really only there at the very start....as soon as the car warms up the shifts should be smooth.

This is how my car acts. The first few minutes in these sub-freezing temps it's notchy but after that it's perfectly smooth. It's still annoying to feel even if only for a few minutes each day.

It won't fix it as others have said but does make it feel much smoother than with a lightweight shift knob. I have a slight notchiness going into 2nd and 3rd I think but once it warms up mostly goes away.
I could never go back to a lightweight shift knob though.
