Default Weird, but regular behavior...

When I start my S after not driving it for any more than 4 hours or so, it won't rev past 7k, in gear or not. and VTEC doesn't kick in either. This only happens for maybe a minute or so after I start it and then it's back to normal, but I was just wondering what it could possibly be.

Watch your oil level and temperature. Most likely, you didn't let the engine warm up enough and it stopped you around 6k rpms actually. You need at least 2 "bars" on the oil temp indicator, 3 bars is normal temp. Common mistake lol.

We need to have a requirement for this site that no one is allowed to register and post without submitting somehow that they are aware of the standard operating procedures for their S...

You what ??? you rev it like that without warning it up first ?

Remind me to never buy your car, that motor is toast.

Think of warming up the car like foreplay, let her warm up and she will thank you by letting you take her to the redline.

Some people think its extreme but I wont let my car above 4k rpm without 3 bars and nothing above 6k until 10 minutes after fully warmed on the guage. Then I spent a LOT of time in VTEC but not until she is hot and ready to go. My other car I wont take above 5k RPM until the oil is hot, not the water temp but the oil temp, then that car spends a lot of time at 8k + RPM (8,500RPM Redline) but I was taught a long time ago, rev that car when cold, buy 4 new camshafts very quickly, that is why there is a oil temp gauge in that one.

You are hitting the rev limiter and by the way, if you can get to 7k RPM when its cold, your rev limiter is not working, its supposed to kick in at 6k RPM when its cold.

When the engine is cold, it will not allow you to rev that high. The oil isn't flowing well enough at that point. Wait until normal operating temperatures before vtecing. Also, your tires are also cold at that point, watch for any slip in traction.

wow nothing like VTEC in reverse down the driveway. you need at least like 160 coolant temp to hit 9k but I would wait till 3 bars on the gauge to even think of vtecing
