Default What is AP1 and AP2

Ok, I am somewhat new to the S2000 lingo, but not new to Hondas. After 2 months of constant reading on this forum, I am curious what AP1 and AP2 stand for. My guess is the AP1 S2000 are model years 2000 thru 2003 which have the 2.0 liter motor and the AP2 S2000 are the model years 2004 thru 2006 which have the 2.2 liter motor. Is this correct?

That is correct. AP1 and AP2 are Honda terms, in fact - they're contained within each car's VIN. Check yours and you'll find an AP2 near the beginning.

Cool, I was not aware of that. I checked and you are correct, AP2 is in the VIN for my car.

AP1 = all s2000's with 2.0L motor 00-03
AP1 = all s2000's with 2.0L motor 04+
AP2 = all s2000's with 2.2L motor 04+

Well, ever since I owned my 2000 Civic EX coupe, I drulled every time I went into the dealer to have my car serviced. I sat in the S2000 they always had in the show room while I waited for them to finish with my car. Then I drove a WRX and loved it and bought it. Never thinking I could afford an S2000, gas insurance, car payment, etc.... Even while owning the WRX< I still wanted a S2000. After 3 years with the WRX I got a Civic Si HB just to get rid of the WRX because it was needing alot of money due to some small issues. And they gave me one awesome deal on a Si that sat on their lot for close to a year and was never test driven. I had the Civic Si for less than 4 months before I got the S2000. Which I plan to keep for a long time.

I joined the forum just after I got my WRX.

Then to find out, the insurance on a S2000 is noticably less than a WRX, and almost the same as my Civic Si was. Gas mileage in the S2000 is very close to the WRX. I make more money now, so the car payment is not bad. Depreciation is nothing to worry about either, at least not like the WRX had.
fair enough. this site is loaded with information about the s2000 and the odds are very good that somebody has had the same question previously.

Ok, I'm not dead certain on this, but I think the AP2 is all models 04+ regardless of the engine. AP2 is the chassis code. Even models with the F20C in europe are on the new chassis platform which is the AP2. Unless there is something I'm missing, I'm pretty sure everyone is getting the new chassis, just not the new engine.

AP2 stands for model type and engine.

S2000, F22C1

This is the designation for model and engine from Honda standpoint.

actually from what I've read in the euro forums, etc, their S2000's are still AP1.

so in essence, he is correct in stating that any car with the F20 is an AP1, and those with F22 are AP2
