EDIT - I think I found where you are coming from -

in 2003 - EM2 Civic 2-Dr., D17A1, D17A6, D17A2

so you're right, in this case, the EM2 is used for civics with slightly different motors.
then in the same year -
ES1 Civic 4-Dr., D17A1
ES2 Civic 4-Dr., D17A2
ES9 Civic 4-Dr., LDA1

so the 2 door keeps the same code, but the 4 door doesn't. So there is a bit of inconsistancy with code use.

Bottom line is this, and eventually a euro owner will back me up on this - the 04+'s with the f20c is still an AP1 - that's all there is to it.
this is where the confusion was coming from about the chassis code.

and by the way, in case you didn't read my first post, I was the one who said that the european/jdm S2000's are all AP1's.

for some reason you seem to think I was arguing otherwise....

"one point twenty-one jigawatts, one point twenty-one jigawatts................... this is heavy!"

LOL

despite there being several pages upon pages of this in the past, i still sense a continuing argument , or do i? i can't read very well.

so, this is my interpretation of this thread so far as i don't feel like looking through past threads:
1. any car with an f20 from the factory is an ap1 (pre04 and 04+)
2. any car with an f22 from the factory is an ap2 (pre04's couldn't have an ap2 from the factory so 04+ only)

if i had to guess, apX where X is the engine, right?

well, thats what it looks like to me so far. at least i am certain that my vehicle is an ap2.

Wisconsin,

I wasn't trying to argue with you....its all good. Just promoting healthy discussion

My counter point to your post wasn't the AP1 vs AP2 thing, it was reference to the fact that chassis codes are independent of the engine. With a little research on both our parts, its clear that HOnda is very inconsisent when it comes to assigning a code to a car given its chassis and engine configuration.

It seems they'll keep a chassis code for certain cars, despite having different engines, but on others, they'll change the code when a different engine is installed.

Meth, your summary is correct, however, again, the X in APX does reflect the engine in this case, but with other honda cars, its not necessarily the case.

Cheers all
