Default What characteristics will AP2v1 on AP1 change..?

I waited 5 years for this mod, and finally worn rubber and a bent AP1 wheel led to finding some minty AP2v1s from a local seller.

I put new Michelin Pilot Super Sports 215/45R17 and 245/40R17 and have some questions:
  • Cruising RPMs for 6th gear and ~65mph feel lower -- is that correct?
  • Is the speedo off by a few mph?
  • 0-60 doesn't feel slower, should it be?
  • Alignment recommendations? I'm still on my AP1 alignment, but see there are unique stock alignments for AP1 vs AP2 vs CR -- note that I am a 2002 with stock suspension, but on AP2v1 wheels now -- what's the best alignment to do for this franken-setup? (https://robrobinette.com/S2000Alignment.htm)
Thanks!!

No difference at all.

The OEM tires are the same circumference. 16" tires are higher profile. Any felt difference will be between what you had and the PSS tires.

What chuck said, plus the lower/shorter sidewall will give you more positive steering feel and road feedback. Always a perfect upgrade for an ap1. Best alignment, IMO, for street driving is the UK alignment.

Somewhere out there is a video from Best Motoring where they swapped wheels between the two cars. Might not be super relevant, but who doesn't love BMI?

Haven't seen that video in a while -- a lot of s2ki posts said AP2v1s are the lightest AP2 wheels, but heavier than the AP1 stockies... but Best Motoring states otherwise:

*Tire weight also makes a difference -- wish they would have weighed without the tires!

I made this change on my 02 only I am using ap2 v3 wheels which are a bit heavier. I don't notice much different. Maybe a tad sharper steering and a tad rougher ride - but not much.

I *love* the spoke design on the AP2v3, and think they're the perfect replacement for AP1 wheels; could not find any reasonably priced sets in my area though as they're very popular.

So you're also a 02 with AP2 wheels -- which alignment do you use? AP1? AP2? CR?

I use ap1 alignment (although I need to get an alignment this spring). I don't see why the wheel change would affect the alignment specs in any significant way. ??

BTW - my ap2 v3 wheels were expensive. I came to the conclusion that if I wanted v3 I have to pay the freight. I just purchased some used volk ce28 wheels that I will have refinished soon. I'll give them a try and see how thy are. I might keep my v3 wheels either way - at least for the time being. Personally, I still like look of the v3 wheels a lot.

I have AP2V3 wheels on a MY03 and went with the UK alignment, it is a little sharper in the corners but not a huge difference from a stock alignment also need to replace the front tires this year. I don't track the car either. AP2V3 wheels have a great look to them over all OEM wheels IMHO.
