After almost 2 months at the shop, I finally got my S2000 back on the weekend.
Dropped the car off on Sept 13 to get the hood, front bumper, front fenders, and rear bumper stripped and repainted (prior owner had touched up a bunch of stone chips).
Also had them replace the janky OEM-replica front lip, with a far less-janky OEM replica lip (from Bayson R) and paint it.
Ended up getting the little dents worked out of it as well (this ended up taking over 2 weeks because the shop kept having technicians quit).
Finally, the car went out for paint protection film - and here it stayed for over a week, because supply issues meant the film wasn't available immediately.
Finally got it back and it does look far better than before. Also did get to take it out for a drive with a couple buddies (finally got to drive an NA Miata - my goodness, that steering feel is revelatory compared to ours) before winter arrives.
And today, took it in for an urgent end-of-season oil change before I store it for the winter.
Lost almost 2 months of driving, but hopefully this protects the car for a long time.
Recently picked up a second set of OEM Berlina Black mirrors that had Spoon convex mirrors in them. Kinda two birds one stone deal, my drivers side mirror housing's paint has always been a little rough and wanted to get the Spoon mirrors to match my rearview mirror anyways. The Spoon mirrors alone are like $100ish from Japan, paid just a hair more than that which included the whole housings. Was satisfying to buff the area under the mirror mount that was faded/dirty/scratched. While I was in there I wanted to see what speakers I had, to my surprise someone at some point added a set of Eclipse SC6500 components. However the speaker spacer rings for the woofers and wiring was a little rough. So I bought the custom Modifry speaker rings to replace the hacked up ones in there, then got to re-doing the speaker wiring since it wasn't even routed to the back of the speaker (routed directly to the side/pinched). Also was able to see why the passenger crossover was rattling, one of the components on the board broke off. I honestly have no idea who I would even go to to get it fixed since I can't buy a new/used one (too old) to replace it, so I busted out my soldering tools and got to work. Was able to salvage it and got it back working! Then was able to button everything back up in anticipation of my new Kenwood headunit that is coming today. Finally got some "flat spot prevention" tire cradles for winter storage, bc of how wide the tires are I didn't trust those metal dollies you get at HF and the nicer ones were like crazy $$$. Just wanted something I could drive on and be done with it, these are sold all over the place but got the best deal on HD surprisingly for all 4 was $150.
Get a battery minder and forget about it. It is a charger but it keeps the battery topped off much better than a regular charger. You hook it up and forget about until you drive again. Then it is very important not to forget about it.
I put a stick (Painter mix stick with Sharpie words to the effect: "CHARGING" That way I won's screw up and drive off if it has been hooked up for months.
Yeah, I've done this more than once with different cars! (You'd think it would only take one occurrence after which I would learn!). Fortunately, no apparent damage to anything, but it's better to disconnect the tender before driving!
