The hardtop strikers and the ones on the earlier cars were different. The HT strikers are bigger, heavy duty. Your '06 should already have the bigger strikers.

I believe that after 2002, all S2000s came with hardtop strikers. Since you have a 2006, you are fine. Since in '00 and '01, there was no such thing as a hardtop. I think they redesigned the striker after 2002.

Not true. The '00 hardtop was introduced and made available at the end of the model year. I have an '00 and I got the HT with the '00 install kit. Ordered it in Sept. of 2000.

I thought the only difference was the alloy.

I've changed to the new strikers in my old 2001 and noticed no difference. The older ones were a softer alloy and tended to deform introducing lots of wind noise.

Odd. I had my HT strikers next to my old ones and the HT ones were a bit bigger base plate.

So then is it really necessary to change the strikers if you have a MY00-MY01?

My first S (MY00) had the "original" strikers they were a little soft and a different design to the current ones. They wore very quickly and caused a lot of wind noise because the roof never seated properly.

I'd change them it is a 20 minute job!

Only if you have issues with wind noise or rattling. Otherwise, why do anything?
