Reducing wheel/tire weights will primarily benefit handling -- not acceleration.

Thanks,
Richard

Acceleration will mostly be affected by the O.D.of the tire;larger O.D.= less acceleration.

I put a set of 17s on my AP1 and man, I must have added what feels like 20Hp
Jk. The wheels are much lighter than stock but, I did not notes much of a performance difference just a appearance difference

for daily driving, it wouldn't make such a big different unless you are rolling some 26 inch chrome out dub-Z

but for track use, the lighter the better.

p.s. for puddydad, your son is probably the sadest looking guy standing for a s2000 pictures..

I went with 16" spoon rims. 11 pds in the front and 12pds in the back . The first thing I noticed was how much easier the steering wheel turned in all types of corners. It's really hard to say how much acceleration has improved since I haven't gone to the track since I was stock....and I now have a couple other mods as well. The vehicle will now chirp 2nd and 3rd gear sometimes as well...not that it is a great thing for racing I will also say that if I punch it in 1st gear anwhere above 5k rpms I will many times just spin from 7k rpms til redline because of the reduction in rotational mass coupled with the v-tec crossover. I have stock S02's so it isn't the tire and it woundn't do that with stock rims.

I learned my lesson before about going with bigger rims when I had a 02 celica GT-S 6spd. It turned into a complete dog with 18"s....it was a lot grippier in turns, but steering felt slow and acceleration became embarrassing . I ended up selling them shortly after and putting the stock rims back on.

The bigger rims may look great, but it wasn't worth the hit in almost all aspects of performance to me.

Where did you find the 16" Spoons? I may be interested...

And SilverKnight, please stop jerkin' over your wheels. They're 18's, there's no way that they are THAT light.
