So after having bent several exhaust valves, I've been thinking, with the head apart, maybe I should invest alittle more $$$ and make the S car go a little more.
What do you guys think?
MSRP for 8 exhaust valves is $240, I've been thinking about spending another $400, getting briancrower springs and retainers, and also some Ferrera valves.
From what I've been reading, doing these mods on my relatively stock ap1, won't give me gains (even if I upgraded my camshafts), IS this true?
and also, if you were in my situation, what would you do?
keep it stock if you are not gonna do any more mods. but it won't hurt to have them. it'll prevent it from what happened to the head in the first place
I money shifted a couple of months ago. Bought all new valve train from honda intake valves and exhaust valves, springs, retainers, keepers etc. including the labor from the cylinder head shop I was just under 500 bucks. Honda of the Avenues in Jacksonville Florida gives an S2ki Discount if you ask for paul at the parts counter.

what kinda mods are you talking about? little mild mods? or FI or stroker it?
thanks s2ki guys, lets keep the input going please
If you are staying stock, then don't spend the extra money.
Grab Ap2 retainers and the rest ap1 oem.
If you want to go with a dual titanium valve springs and retainers, you can theoretically bump up your redline (maybe to 9500), but you will need to do some MORE modding to even make power up to 9, let alone 9,500.
P.S Yes you will need to upgrade cams to attempt to make power past 8,300 rpm, you will also need a ECU. E-manage + cams will be over 1200, not including tune.
You have it apart, go for stainless steel valves AP2 retainers and a nice port (matched to your intake and exhaust gaskets) and polish job. The valves will cost about the same as OEM but there billet stainless steel (made of one piece of metal) and a bit lighter. The AP2 retainers are proven to be a little better/stronger. The port and polish will make the movement of air more efficient
This is a standard stage 1, bordering on a stage 2 upgrade that your factory ECU will support without issue. A full stage 2 would be heaver springs and a 3 angle valve job.
Stage 1 head
I can post a stage 2 head as soon as I finish it today or tomorrow
funny, I read in several threads on s2ki that the fseries heads don't gain any power when p&ped.
You guys are making me lean towards doing an OEM valvetrain... . But what if I were to add cams and tune in the long run? would my gains be worth the money spent??
