Default what do i do? Engine oil indicates L

Hi, i don't know if this has been discussed before but i was going through the faq today and saw engine oil faq, so i went out to my car and checked it. It's right around L (i am assuming it's low) and was wondering if i just add more oil and wait 'til 3750 miles or just get an oil change. right now mine black/black beauty is at 2700 miles. Please give me some replies before it does any harm.

Add oil. The difference between L and H is approx 1qt.

Any premium 10w30 will be fine. Castrol GTX, Valvoline, Mobil. Avoid synthetics until the engine is fully broken in.

Add a little less then 1 Quart of 10W-30. DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC (until 5-8K). Any "mineral oil will do. I like Castrol as it is high in Molbdenum which aids in break in of the engine.

I just came back from pep boys with the oil that u guys suggested. Now since the problem is solved, i was wondering, does the oil dry up or something or get used up? would i have to add a little even after like 10000 miles? or is it happening because my stook is new? thanks once again.

On a new engine the oil blows past the bottom ring (i.e. oil skirt ring). As the rings wear in and form a seal there will be less blow by and hence less oil consuption. CHECK YOUR OIL AT EVERY FILL UP for the first 5,000 miles at least. By the way if you have your oil analyzed you will find that the blow-by is 2 way street and some fuel gets into the oil as well.

Until the engines' piston rings full seat, you'll burn/blow oil. Keep an eye on it for several thousand miles... (many recommend at every fill up). Mine stopped buring oil at 2500 miles..others have seen it past 7000+... No oil=DEAD ENGINE... So, just watch it. This is a performance vehicle...treat it as such.
