Without getting into major details......hydrolock is when you suck up enough water into the engine that the crank can't rotate due to the fact that water cannot be compressed in a cylinder like the normal air/fuel mix.

Most cases of hydrolock result in permanent and total power loss...

I hydrolocked my CR-V on New Years Eve. There was some pretty serious flooding in Northern Cali. I got a lil bit too moto

As already stated, water does not compress the way air compresses. Keep in mind, when an engine is spinning 3k rpm's, the pistons are going up and down 50 times per second. At any given time, one or more pistons may be on the compression stroke. (four cycle engine) If an engine sucks enough water, at 3k rev's, the bloody piston is traveling soo fast, combined with the fact that water does not compress, it's like hitting a brick wall.

Well, I was stuck in 2 1/2 feet of water for about 45 minutes. The water was rising, so I decided to crank the engine over. Rrr, Rrr, Rrr, Rrr the engine fires right back to life. It had somewhat of a rough idle

Soo, I drive it home. It had good power, it just sounded pretty fvcked up. Two days later, it threw a rod through the side of the engine block It puked oil everywhere.

My insurance paid for a new engine and installation. Next time I decide to get moto in a flood, I'll install a snorkel

Hydrolock is not something you want to get your car involved in. I learned the hard way.

At least it happened to the CR-V

PS I never would have done that to the S2K.

Off subject, believe it or not, a CR-V motor cost more than an F20C motor.

I've hydrolocked my car twice during startup with an aem intake. I have since changed back to stock. No adverse effects to the engine so far.
so you had to rebuild your engine twice?

you do realize that hydrolock means you have completely siezed your engine, and it needs mechanical repairs to be done in order to fix it, right? hydrolocking is not a "temporary" issue. it's permanent, until you get it repaired.

I hydrolocked mine back in July of 03. My AEM intake got soaked while parked in my driveway during a heavy rainfall. water ran down the snorkel soaked the filter and on startup cracked the #4 cylinder wall. Honda replaced the motor under warranty.

ok, so what do you call it when... your engine sucks just enough water that the cylinders can't compress it. You hit the start button and the starter doesn't have seems as if it doesn't have enough power to crank the engine. Remove the intake from the throttlebody and manage to get it to crank. Before reconnecting the intake you dump about a gallon of water out of it. semihydrolock?
