Default What exactly is VSA?

My S2000 has VSA. I realize VSA stands for Vehicle Stability Assist, but what exactly does it do? Is it something that limits wheel spin off the line? Does it prevent the car from spining out in ice or low traction areas? I guess I am trying to figure out if VSA is more related to acceleration, handling or breaking? Or a combination of these?

I hate when people respond with this, but just search. There's no way this topic hasn't been discussed in the 6 or 7 years VSA has been in the S.
