I believe I already posted a comment regarding the tools on the trunk.

yeh, that's the first thing I've noticed and said to myself "man, who cares about the top, how about the paint?"

maybe the top doesn't work, because you abuse your car like a 6 year old in a trailor park.

Get the tools off the car or you will have a much bigger problem than the top.

So here's the thing re: Paint, right?

It's a 6 year old Honda. Yes it's my S, but it's not made of unobtanium, it doesn't need to be treated with kid gloves, and if setting something on the car is going to magically ruin it, there's problems. I'm not rubbing them all over. At the end of the day, it's a special car to me, but it's just a car. It's meant to be durable, dependable, and to not fall apart at the lightest touch of something.

... so no, you guys aren't being too anal retentive if it was your own car, but since it needs a full detail anyhow, I'm not gonna obsess over setting things gently on it right now. I"m not gonna slide them down the side of the car, but after 2 months of not having been able to drive the car, and 4 days of utter frustration with this top, I just want it DONE, i could give a damn about the niceties of the paint at the moment.

It is an easy way to scratch the car unnecessarily. When you set a piece down and pick it up, you are rubbing it across the paint whether you notice or not. But hey, it's your car and if you don't care, neither do I.

Whew, man, I feel your pain. FWIW, I did my own top, it was absolutely horrible and I thought I'd never get it done, but it did work out just fine in the end. Best of luck to you.
