Default What to look for in used s2000 '2000

Hi everyone,

i'm new to the forum and I already need advice

I found a really nice s2000 for sale (in canada)

it's a sterling silver year: 2000
65,000 KM ~ 40000 Miles
27, 800$ ~ 22,773.82 US$

It sounds like a good deal for here in Canada (ontario) , I was curious to know if you guys think it sounds good too.

The seller says the car is in mint condition

I was wondering what I should look for before buying it, what tests I should do and what problem I might find on an '2000

I have a 2000 model...it's a fun car, although I didn't do a lot of research before buying the it.

Couple things to note:

1. Check the condition of the top; is it faded? How is the plastic window? Is it cloudy, scratched? Ask the owner how he treats the top/plastic window.
2. Check the wearholes...all 00 and 01's will develop them at some point because they have a manufacteur defect.
3. Other than that...I would just use common sense when checking it out.

Oh, and it sounds a bit overpriced but that's just me.

A bit overpriced indeed. I got my 2000 with 13,300 miles for $22,600 before warranty. Make sure the clutch is still good, mine grabs so late now.

If you are set on a '00 year.....I know where there is one that is truly a cream-puff as in 'new condition' The car is in New York (Rochester), and I had a friend go and personally look it over on my behalf. I am ultra-meticulous, and this car was looked at the way I would look at it. I was looking at this car to buy for myself, and getting shipping quotes.....but have since ordered a new car. I talked with the owner of this car several times, and he told me that it didn't have a scratch on it anywhere......even under the front bumper (chin rash). Sill plates aren't even scuffed. Talk is cheap, and that's why I sent someone to personally verify all of these descriptions. He also said it has only been out on sunny days & only on dry pavement. It only has 4,024 miles on it, and it's Red exterior - Black interior. It has the factory rear spoiler (No side strakes or front spoiler). Factory 6-disc CD changer in trunk. Factory Honda S2000 car cover. Factory wind dampener between the seats. The owner had hoped to get $22,500 for it, but he knows that I was going to offer a lesser amount. He seems to be realistic and reserved to the fact that the market is kinda soft on the used S2000 right now. I bet that this car could be had for somewhere around the $21,000 figure.....

I'll have to say that the car is way overpriced. Some MY2000's are selling closer to 15k with higher mileage.
  • Convertible top wear. Check for wear holes as mentioned above.
  • Convertible plastic window. Use Plexus plastic cleaner to
  • You might also want to have a mechanic do a compression test on the engine. Some guy posted that he recently purchased a MY2000 S2000 and cylinder #3 had a low compression reading.
  • Check the wheel alignment to determine suspension and/or frame damage.
  • Check the seams along the body panels for irregularities that might indicate body damage and repair.

Good luck.

There are a number of TSB's associated with the MY00. You should ensure all were done and require proof of completion.
