Default What Oil is everyone using?

Just bought my 2000 GPW with 65,000 miles. What oil is everyone useing? Has anyone had good luck with the ten minute oil change places? I have a "Quick Change" in my town that has Castrol oils. I have used them for years with no problems...

If anything you could take in your own oil and filter and have them charge you only for doing the labor.

Uh Oh, I see another potential oil flame wars coming up. (Oil is a very religious subject for some people. just fyi.) As far as oils that have lived up to the crazy testing, the best oils are the synthetics. Just to name a few that I've seen people using around here:

amsoil ~$8-10/qt
mobil1 ~22/5qt @ walmart
royal purple ~7-10/qt

But honestly, oil change marketing and personal analness has brain washed many people into thinking that they must do a full synthetic change every 3k. If you search around there are used oil analysis showing that they can go around 7500 miles with still plenty of room to spare in the lubrication properties of the oil especially if they are using synthetics.

Regular mineral oils will hold up just fine for 5k+ miles, despite the 9000rpm redline, etc.... I think most oils if not all that you can buy are sae certified and passed the minimal testing. Oil will lubricate and keep your engine safe.

This is what I get for reading just the topic title and not the body.

Some people have had good experiences while others have had horrendous experiences: not torquing/over torquing the oil bolt, ruining engines, etc... If you've been fine with the 10 minute quick changes, that's fine. Lots of places will take your own oil and filter.

The s2k isn't some kind of exotic car that requires special tools to do an oil change, just as simple as a plain jane civic, so you should be fine as long as the place isn't over torquing your oil drain bolt and they make sure the rubber gasket on the oil filter comes off when replacing the filter.

FYI: If the rubber gasket does not come off the oil filter and one places another oil filter on top, once the engine is running all the oil will spill out of the oil filter. This is because there would be 2 gaskets instead of one...

Even I have been around here long enough to know not to get into this one. The only thing I would say is if you do go to a quick lube I would buy an OEM filter(15400-PCX-004) and crush-ring for the drain plug and have them install those.

As for the oil if you cant find it here. I dont think you are going to.

Good luck.
