what? quater mile double shifting?
okay.
so... this guy says he double clutches when he drag races.
so i say, double clutching has nothing to do acceleration.
now he says, there is a shifting technique similar to double shifting
when you drag race,
as soon as he hits 2 nd gear, he quickly press and depress the clutch
one more time to get a "torquey jump."
yea, right, i say it's "jerk", not a "jump."
BS, right?
he says it's sometimes called "quarter mile double."
hey, i drag race, but never heard of such stuff.
somebody please educate me.

when I had gobs of power to play with, I did this on occassion with the mustang. imagine rolling off the line, oh wait.. we're drag racing with the guy next to us? ...put the clutch in, the revs go up, pop the clutch out, the rear tires break loose and I'm up in the better end of the torque band.
not recommended for this car, but hope that makes sense. and nope.. not double clutching. but hey.. let him call it whatever he wants. its amusing to hear from time to time. =)

my friend told me the same thing...
when you're accelerating, push in the clutch slightly, then push it all the way (so the engine revs), release the gas, then drop the clutch while you gas it all the way...
i guess its harmful to the tranny for that split second it takes to do it, but it results in a "kick"...haven't tried it, but he did it pretty good in his integra...
