What is the S2000 like on a trip?
I've driven from Michigan to Key West and back (about 3100 miles round trip)
My record distance in one day is: 987 miles in +/- 13 hours (by myself)
I only stopped for gas, snacks and bio breaks
I averages about 34 mpg with the top up and cruise on in 6th.
I averaged about 26 mpg with the top down.
I drove between 75-80 mph, except threw SC where I drove 100+ (no cops)
I added 1/4 qt of oil to car once I got to Florida. I was still going through 1/4 qt ever 2000 miles or so. This has since stopped (after 9000 miles on my car)
I used my AC with the top up. The foot well and ebrake are heats up.
The road and mechanical noise, while there, did not bother me. I liked it.
With the top up, the stock stereo works just fine. With the top down, you have to put the windows up to enjoy the stereo.
I found the S2000 to be more than comfortable for long trips. I was able to sit in 3 different positions in the seat. I rotated these positions so my arms and legs would not get sore or fall asleep.
Using cruise control is a must. Your leg will get tired without it.
Sunglasses are a must
A hat is a must
I found that above 70 mph, with the top down, would get exhausting after an hour or so. Putting up the windows helps this and can extend the drive time to 3-4 hours before I wanted a break.
I was able to pack a weeks worth of fishing clothes, fly rods, and gear in the trunk with no problem.
I would do it again with no reservations.

Drove 3300 miles from Boston to Southern California. The car was jammed packed with my stuff, the secret compartment was overflowed with snacks, even stuffed things into the spare tire compartment. More comfortable than I would have imagined. I have a Tanabe Racing Medallion exhaust, so the exhaust did get annoying after a while, luckily had the silencer to stick in there. All and all a great road trip, wouldn't have been any funner in any car!!
The longest road trip to date has been about 5 hours each way. Road/wind noise wasn't a problem for me, but the buffeting you get from passing semis wore me out on the way out. On the way back, I used ear plugs and viola, no problems. Also, make sure to drink plenty of water as you will dehydrate like an SOB and that's no fun.
If you are of a size that fits then the fun of the car will easily outweigh any minor discomforts that may arise from a long ride. I drive a lot for my job and have found that if you get your butt back into the seat as far as you can, raise your knees, and bring the back of the seat up slightly more than ususal it will help a great deal on long days in the car.
I did a trip from Calgary, AB to Seattle, WA the long way (down thru Montana, Idaho) which is about 14 hours. We switched drivers every couple of hours and that was enough to keep us both rested enough to do the drive. And that was even with me operating on NO sleep as we left at 1 AM.
The car really is rather difficult to sleep in... I tried many times (we had a couple of travel pillows with us) and even trying to prop my head up against various spots in the car it was too hard to sleep as the car is a bit loud and obviously rather stiff.
Would I do it again tho? YES in a second!

OK, I may be the largest body that have been in an S2k around here but, I', 6"3' and 300#'s and the car just fits me very well. My only beef with it is that there is no tilt wheel. If I could have that I would be in heaven. I drove a CR-X Si modified for quite a while and I'm definatelly considering an S now that I sell Hondas and the employee price can't be beat. I don't know if I would be comfortable for a very long trip but all the driving I have done so far, the fun I have had takes all my complaints away...

Just got back from a trip from Long Island to San Diego about 3400 miles in 6 days. I am 6'2" 165 lbs. and the car fit me perfect. Drove with the top down most of the way. Yes the sound is bad, but only bad in the sense that driving 80 mph in 6th at 4500 rpm (stock exhaust) really puts me to sleep. The sound is soo comfortable that it makes me sleepy.
The stock stereo bites I would put some decent speakers a changer and an amp in before you go. Oh yeah and a radar detector!
I would never do a long drive in any other car. The worst part of the trip is having to stay close to the speed limit!!
Good Luck!

I'm 6'2 and around 185. I just stopped by the dealer today to see if they had any '04's hidden in the back, but after finding out they didn't, I hopped into an '03 and I had a hard time starting it because my knees were glued to the steering wheel. Looks like edmunds was right, I wear a 44L suit and I had an extremely difficult time fitting inside.
I rode an hour in my Mom's coworker's S2000 around the Pasadena area (freeway, under 6000 rpm the whole time in 6th gear 75-80 mph) and I was a little sore in the back. Maybe that's because I was sitting up really really straight because I was really really excited. But I don't know. The seats are comfortable to me (5'5" 115 with 28-30 waist.).
I'm sorry, I can't quite get my thoughts together, I just drove up from San Diego with the top down. Yes, I'm so used to driving mine for pleasure "blasts" around So Cal (inland specifically where there is essentially 10-months to do so) that I forget how a short burst of exhilarating buzz for 3-4 hours can become a dull headed drone on long trips. When I do break out for a region to region road trip I find that at the end of day the droning can become...well....very droning!
